@@karlsvensk393 That's probably false since funk was brought to japan by predominantly christian black artists from the west, most notably the US. George duke was one of them and was instrumental to helping funktify japan.

Honestly most modern music genres come from american blacks. Rock music, techno, jazz, blues, funk, hiphop, pop, the list goes on. Their music was just so good that it couldn't be constrained to US borders and spread internationally. It was even sold at black markets in places like the soviet union where western music was banned (where my family is from). There's very few modern genres they haven't invented or directly influenced.

Just thinking about the only good thing that comes from having adhd is the connection I have with music. I don’t understand how people can study or do homework etc. when they listen to music. When I listen to music the only thing I can think about is the music I’m listening to. I can hear every instrument, every different part of the music all fitting together like a puzzle. The music I’m hearing seems to distract me not just from the stresses of my life but my entire being. I’m no longer myself, I’m in the cosmos floating as nothing and something at the same time. I don’t feel like crying but I feel intense sadness, joy, and nostalgia. Feelings I don’t feel in real life. I’m just lucky to have found this genre of music, Japanese 80’s music has really changed my life.

Moss Colossus I'm not saying its the same music..but its descendent of it, or rather takes influence from it, and very much moreso than other countries' music. im speaking on a larger scale. funk influence is just now starting to become popular again in american pop and alternative music, whereas a great deal of Japanese artists have always been more derivative of funk as opposed to the new wave and rnb pop styles which have dominated here in the west (not that there isn't plenty of that in japan as well of course).

I was born in ‘78. Growing up in the 80’s I was unknowingly watching anime, had Nintendo Game & Watch games (dad was a sales rep for Nintendo), since dad had friends in the toy biz I had Macross/RoboTech toys that never made it the US, had a NES when they dropped stateside in 86, and did Karate. It was the time before the mobile phone came to be. A time before people got disturbed by beeps and vibrations every other minute. Your mind would be in a more quiet/relaxed state and this would get the creative juices flowing, because it's a mood and state of mind you have to be in. Your mind must be free of thoughts of having to remember stuff (tip: if you want to clear your mind and need to remember stuff, write them onto paper)... once the mind is free of thought you can let the mind wander, and at this point you'll end a state of creativity.

Sadly that state of creativity is immediately broken once a beep or vibration comes through and urges you to have a look, and thus your mind will be busy again with whatever message is on your phone... and gone is your creativity.

Switch off that bloody phone, shut down that tablet, get some pen and paper to take notes and well... go for a walk or something. It helps with creativity. :)

I was in a resort in Costa Rica and I remember that I was in bed, just woke up, still tired, and so I took my headphones and played some Japanese music from 80-90s, and when this song came up, I went back to sleep, basically, but the music was still playing, and I could still hear it.

You can play this at any black cookout and I swear to you it would just give the even and the song a whole new meaning. Like feeling the sun on your skin, sounds of family and old friends mingling after not seeing eachother for so long, kids screaming and yelling out of excitement, the smell of the hot grill and pollen and sometimes the chlorine of a pool. All so harmonized like the song. Two different cultures, and one universal emotion. Happiness.

If one grew up watching Japanese television even in the States, this type of music was the norm. It was everywhere. Just had to be there I guess. Funny that this type was music has caught on now since many thought it was “generic” compared to YMO since it was so pervasive on TV shows, commercials, films, etc.
