Tone started singing in a local choir when she was 4-5 years old. She knew early on she wanted to be a singer. She took singing lessons and she has also played in a band. Her influences come from “grown up” artists, like Jeff Buckley and Radka Toneff.
She was the runner-up in the Norwegian Idol song contest, losing to Jorun Stiansen in the final. The finale was the most watched televised entertainment event in the history of the TV2 broadcasting house, with 1,4 million viewers. Even though she came in second, she is one of the only Idol participants that has actually gone on to have a singing career. The only one that’s been more successful than her is the original winner, Kurt Nilsen. She has released 4 studio albums;“Bliss”, “Sweet Fever”, “I Know” and “Cocool”, and also the greatest hits compilation “Looking Back”.
She took part in the Melodi Grand Prix, Norwegian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, in 2009, with the song “Butterflies”, and ended up as the runner-up yet again. Her song was on the Norwegian Top 20 list (VG-lista) for 16 weeks. She also took part in the second season of the Norwegian version of Dancing with the Stars, in 2006, where she finished third. In 2013, she entered the Swedish pre-selections for ESC, Melodifestivalen, with the duet “Hello Goodbye” featuring Erik Segerstedt, ending up not making the finals.
At the end of 2012, she started releasing singles from an upcoming fifth studio album, starting with Smash. This time, she worked with different producers for a more synthesized pop sound than her usual material. The next single, Winner of a Losing Game, produced by Stargate, was released on June 21st. The EP also included the Darkchild-produced “Perfect World” and “Hello Goodbye”. The EP was released on January 20th, along with a final song, ‘Heartkill’.
Butterflies

Don't know what to wear
Do my make-up
Then I brush my hair
Read the first scene
As I paint my nails
And suddenly my heart starts beating
I think I need some air
Little frightening
As the lights go down
Almost showtime
Curtains opening now
Spotlight hits you
I lose all my lines
And once again my heart starts beating
I think I need some air to start breathing
I'm getting butterflies
I'm floating on a dream
Now my world starts spinning
My heart pounds
So happy that I could cry
When I look in your eyes
Cause you keep giving me
Keep giving me butterflies
Intermission
Love scenes coming up
I am shaking
As the symphony erupts
Will I make it
Or will I fall apart
And once again my heart starts beating
I think I need some air to start breathing
I'm getting butterflies
I'm floating on a dream
Now my world starts spinning
My heart pounds
So happy that I could cry
When I look in your eyes
Cause you keep giving me
Keep giving me butterflies
I'm feeling terrified
No control
And now my world is shaking
The curtains close
And it tingles and tickles inside and my pulse running high
I'm getting butterflies
I'm floating on a dream
Now my world starts spinning
My heart pounds
So happy that I could cry
When I look in your eyes
Cause you keep giving me
Keep giving me
I'm getting butterflies
I'm floating on a dream
Now my world starts spinning
My heart pounds
So happy that I could cry
When I look in your eyes
Cause you keep giving me, keep
Cause you keep giving me
Keep giving me butterflies
Tone Damli's song "Butterflies" is about the excitement, fear, and joy of performing on stage. The song starts with the singer getting ready for her performance, feeling nervous and unsure of herself. She's not sure what to wear, she does her make-up, and reads the first scene of the performance while painting her nails. As she gets ready to take the stage, her heart starts racing, and she feels like she needs some air.
When the performance starts, she's overwhelmed by the excitement and the spotlight hits her. She loses her lines and almost falls apart. But then she sees the person she loves in the audience, and her heart fills with joy. She feels like she's floating on a dream, her heart pounds, and she's so happy she could cry. She continues to feel the butterflies throughout the performance, and it's a mix of fear and excitement.
The chorus repeats several times, expressing the joy and excitement that the person she loves is giving her, giving her the butterflies. The bridge talks about how she's feeling terrified and has no control, but the feeling of the butterflies is still present, and it's tingling and tickling inside, and her pulse is running high.
Overall, the song is about the feeling of performing on stage, the fear, and excitement, and how the love of someone can make those feelings even stronger.
