She has won 7 Grammy Awards. The RIAA named Braxton as one of the top selling R&B artists of all time.
She first burst onto the scene in 1992 on the Boomerang soundtrack, after Anita Baker turned down the opportunity. In 1993 Toni released her self-titled debut album, which stayed at the top of the charts for a year and was a critically acclaimed album.
Toni released her sophomore effort, Secrets in 1996 which also did very well on both R&B and Pop charts. From that album Toni got two #1 hits; "You're Making Me High "and "Unbreak My Heart", which spent 14 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard top 100, and was a worldwide hit. After 5 Grammy awards and a little break, Toni Braxton came back strong with her 2000 album The Heat. Though not as successful as her first two albums, The Heat went on to sell 4 million copies and spawned the huge hits "He Wasn't Man Enough"and "Just Be A Man About It".
Toni has released two further albums, 2002's More Than a Woman and 2005's Libra. Toni's sixth studio album Pulse was released in May 2010 via Atlantic Records. The singles "Yesterday" and "Hands Tied" were the biggest hits. Subsequent singles to be released from "Pulse" include "Make My Heart" and "Woman."
In January 2011, the WE Television Network confirmed that it had signed Toni and the rest of the Braxton family for a reality series, Braxton Family Values, which will be marketed as one of the network's flagship shows. The series debuted April 12, 2011, and looks at the relationship between Toni, her mother, and her four sisters; Trina, Tamar, Traci and Towanda — all aspiring singers themselves — along with the interpersonal relationships of each family member. The show also looked at Braxton's heavily publicized separation from estranged husband, singer Keri Lewis. Toni parted ways with her long time manager Vincent Herbert (who was also the husband of sister Tamar Braxton at the time), and signed a new management deal with Los Angeles-based entertainment/production company 'The Collective'.
In 2014, Toni released a collaborative album with Babyface entitled Love, Marriage & Divorce; primarily inspired by their individual divorces (Toni with Keri, and Babyface with Tracey Edmonds). The album was supported by the singles "Hurt You", "Where Did We Go Wrong" and "Roller Coaster"; and won Best R&B Album in the 57th Annual Grammy Awards (2015).
Toni's long-awaited eighth album Sex & Cigarettes was released on Def Jam in March 2018, which was supported by the singles "Deadwood", "Long as I Live" and "FOH". The album also featured a sole guest appearance from singer Colbie Caillat, and was nominated for three Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Album in the 61st awards ceremony (2019).
Signing to Island Records in 2020, Toni released her ninth album Spell My Name in August 2020, featuring collaborations with H.E.R. & Missy Elliott. The album was released to positive reception, but was her lowest-charting album yet, peaking at #163 on the Billboard 200.
Hit the Freeway
Toni Braxton Lyrics

What's the problem?
Always complaining when there's children starving
What type of game is this?
I used to support you
I thought you'd appreciate some of these things that I bought you
Shoes from Milan, Louis Vuitton
Animals on back and jewels on your arm
Loon, the Big Fish, leave them fools in the pond
Just when I made up my mind
I thought, but you would allow
You're hard to trust; you owe me
What makes you wanna call now
Can you try to tell me
What made you choose her as your friend?
(Choose you as a friend, baby)
Just when I think you've given up
It's you again
All I can say
Take away my lonely one
Nothing else can be done
(So hit the freeway)
I don't ever wanna see you again
You didn't do me right, so
So long, goodbye, goodbye (so hit the freeway)
Maybe in some other life I'll see you again
I would have bet the Dow Jones
If men compared to out of the fun, yeah
Imagine how crush it was
When you say I was not the one
(Wait a minute, girl
I'm sorry 'bout that}
My friends say I was in denial
Defendin' you as a perfect friend
Now how new is your love?
I'll ask you again
Now all I can say
Take away my lonely one (take away)
Nothing else can be done (so hit the freeway)
I don't ever wanna see you again (sing it, girl)
You didn't do me right, so
So long, goodbye, goodbye (so hit the freeway)
Maybe in some other life I'll see you again
Now that you've left me
Crazy you upset me
You only could have kept me
But, baby, you didn't get me home
To finally discover
Exploring covers
World as we know it
But you had to go and blow it
Damn, it's been so long
Since I heard your voice last summer
To be honest it made me smile
When I seen you not with her (hey, baby, you know I miss you)
Will you tell me what I should feel
Instead of being your regret (you know)?
Maybe some day in your dreams, my love
You could say, "Damn, it's you again"
Now all I can say
Take away my lonely one (take away)
Nothing else can be done {so hit the freeway}
I don't ever wanna see you again
(Don't wanna see you again)
You didn't do me right so (do me right, baby)
So long, goodbye (bye, bye) (so hit the freeway)
Maybe in some other life I'll see you again
The lyrics of the song Hit The Freeway by Toni Braxton are about a woman who has had enough of her partner's inconsistencies and unfaithfulness. She is frustrated with the double standards in their relationship, where she seems to make all the effort while he complains about her spending money on her. She is tired of his lies and betrayal and decides that she is done with him. She tells him to hit the freeway, meaning she wants him to leave her life and never return.
The chorus emphasizes her resolve to move on and never look back, and she wishes to never see him again. She notes that he did not treat her right and thus, she is saying goodbye to him forever. The verses narrate how she has always been supportive of him, giving him expensive gifts, being loyal to him, and trusting him, but he did not reciprocate the feelings, leading him to lose her. She feels that he is not trustworthy, and he owes her for all the wrongs he has done.
Overall, this song is about the strength it takes to move on from a toxic relationship that is no longer working out, and the importance of standing up for oneself, even if it means saying a painful goodbye.
