Oklahoma Wind
Tonic Sol-fa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Today he cried at work, everybody stared
Most days he don't even smile
And somehow all the things he's worked for in his life
They haven't mattered in a while

Oh that Oklahoma Wind
Like a love, it's never gonna end
Oh that Oklahoma Wind
Her voice is calling him again

After work he drives just to hold her hand again
He wonders if she knows he's there
The doc says "Take a break" but he grabs a cot to stay
No he's not going anywhere

Oh that Oklahoma Wind
Like a love, it's never gonna end
Oh that Oklahoma Wind
Her voice is calling him again

Sunday morning comes to soon and he bows his head to pray
All the things he never gets to say
Bells ring and the choirs sing but no one seems to know
How to help a man who's letting go

Oh that Oklahoma Wind
Like a love, it's never gonna end

Oh that Oklahoma Wind
Her voice is calling him again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tonic Sol-fa's song "Oklahoma Wind" depict a story of a man who is going through a difficult time in his life. The opening verse mentions how he cries at work and how his colleagues stare at him. The following lines reveal that he doesn't usually display emotion and has lost interest in things that were once significant to him. The lyrics convey the message that the man is going through a tough emotional and mental state.

The chorus of the song contains an interesting metaphor where the Oklahoma wind is compared to love that is never-ending. The singer of the song, who seems to be a sad and lonely soul, is led by the voice of his loved one that comes with the wind. In the second verse, the lyrics mention how the man drives after work just to hold his loved one's hand. The lyrics portray the man's desperate attempt to be with the one he loves and how he needs her presence to feel good.

The song's last verse mentions how the man bows his head to pray and feels helpless because there are a lot of things he needs to say but doesn't get the chance to express. Even though the choir sings and bells ring, he feels alone because he is undergoing a difficult phase in his life. "Oklahoma Wind" is a beautiful song that reflects how the wind can move and soothe people when they need it the most.
