Krikorian is a singer/songwriter, whose songs have been recorded by Charlie Sexton, Bette Midler, Peter Case, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Vanessa Williams, Bonnie Raitt and others. He is most commonly regarded as a Christian artist, and has released several albums of Christian songs starting with Romeo Unchained (1986); prior to that, he was decidedly a secular artist.

Krikorian and Alan Shapazian (rhythm guitar) formed a band called The Raik's Progress which recorded one single for Liberty Records, released in 1967. In 1973, he appeared as a member of the former Buddy Holly backing band the Crickets on their album "Remnants".

By 1978, Krikorian went solo, adopting the name of Tonio K, possibly a reference to the Thomas Mann novel Tonio Kröger, with Life In The Foodchain.

Krikorian is featured as lead vocalist on the song "Don't Fade Away." from the Crickets & Their Buddies album, released in the summer of 2004.

This song was on the sound track for "Summer School" with Mark Harmon. I believe it was played when the surfer girl was trying to put the moves on Mark's character. It is actually a question, not a statement. To many of Tonio K's songs are hard for mainstream Christians to appreciate. In the linear notes for "Rodent Weekend" he states this was his biggest hit and it wasn't even on one of his albums.

I was working at KDWB - a top 40 radio station in the Twin Cites in 1986-88. I played this song exactly ONCE and about five minutes later the program director came in an pulled it from the rotation - immediately. He took the cart right out of the booth. Apparently there were several complaints about the lyrical content. Different times. Not sure if anyone complained that the song is lame.

When the DJs would do a live remote broadcast (such as the State Fair) I would run the board with the music, commercials and promos back at the station. On this day Humble Billy Hayes was the DJ and was at the fair. The program director was back with me at the station. I haven't been in radio since the 80s but I worked in the music business for a while, before it disappeared.

The lyrics of the song support an attitude toward sex that many Christians agree with. He's robotically repeating "I'm supposed to have sex with you" while "love is what we're here for....but love's a funny thing" just having sex is less complicated. His body tells him one thing, which is that he's supposed to have sex, and nobody else can tell him anything, like maybe he should look before he leaps, maybe wait for a second date, she might be a nutcase, etc.
