Smile
Tony Bennett Lyrics

Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fears and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you
Light up your face with gladness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
Tony Bennett's song "Smile" is a call to hope and perseverance during tough times. The opening lyrics encourage the listener to keep smiling, even if their heart is aching and breaking. When the sky is cloudy and fears and sorrows are present, smiling can help push through those emotions. The lyrics suggest that by keeping a positive attitude and smiling, the sun will come out and brighten the day.
The second part of the song notes the importance of hiding sadness and trying to remain positive when tears are near. The chorus repeats the message that even in the face of hardship, it's important to keep trying and smiling because life is still worthwhile. The lyrics remind us to focus on the good in life, rather than dwelling on the negative.
Overall, the song speaks to the power of perspective and the importance of maintaining resilience during difficult times. It offers a message of hope and encouragement to anyone feeling overwhelmed or discouraged.

When I was a child my dad, who had a beautiful voice, used to sing this to my mom when she was sad. He knew Tony Bennett and this is the version he sang and the recording he played. Mom, BTW, also had a beautiful voice. She'd come into our bedroom every morning and wake us up singing. She died last year at 95, I miss her very very much.

Wow, you just restored a bit my faith in love. I was beginning to think this kind of loving family is just fictional and all real married couples are unhappy, families are unhappy because it seems like most people are toxic narcissists that only enjoy putting others down. Thank you for sharing!

This is definitely the best version of this song ever recorded. The way Tony sings, along with the beautiful orchestration and arrangement, it just doesn't get any better than this.
