Stranger in Paradise
Tony Bennett & Andrea Bocelli Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take my hand
I'm a stranger in paradise
All lost in a wonderland
A stranger in paradise
If I stand starry eyed
That's a danger in paradise
Mortals who stand beside
An angels like us

I saw her face
And I ascended
Out of the common place
Into the rarest
Somewhere in space
I hang suspended
Until I know
There's a chance that she cares

Won't you answer this fervent prayer?
Of a stranger in paradise
Don't send me in dark despair
From all that I hunger for
But open your angel's arms
To this strangers in paradise
And tell us that we need be
Strangers no more

I saw her face
And I ascended
Out of the common place
Into the rarest
Somewhere in space
I hang suspended
Until I know
There's a chance that she cares

Won't you answer this fervent prayer?
Of a stranger in paradise
Don't send me in dark despair
From all that I hunger for
But open your angel's arms
To this strangers in paradise

And tell us that we need be
Strangers no more

Overall Meaning

The song "Stranger In Paradise" by Tony Bennett and Andrea Bocelli is a romantic ballad that expresses the sentiment of two people who have just met and fallen in love. The song opens with the lyrics "Take my hand, I'm a stranger in paradise" which signifies the vulnerability and uncertainty of being in a new relationship. The singer is lost in a wonderland and feels suspended in space until he knows that there is a chance that his love interest cares for him. The reference to being a stranger in paradise is used to convey the idea that the person's life has changed for the better since they met their love interest.

The second half of the song focuses on the singer's desire for his love interest to reciprocate his feelings. He fervently prays that she will open her "angel's arms" and accept him into her life so that they can be "strangers no more." The use of secret and soft vocals throughout the song also emphasize the theme of vulnerability and the emotional importance of this moment in the two person's lives.

I love Andrea but Tony Bennett has one of, if not the warmest, beautiful voices ever. Thank you for decades of beautiful music and romance.❤

Mr. Bennett and Mr. Bocelli: What a beautiful duet with such disparate voices.

I think I sort of obsessed with this song with these two great men. I used to play this album to my husband at the hospital when he was in a coma. When he regained consciousness this one was the si g that he loved te most. He muttered the lyrics and moved his hand like following the rhythm. He lost his battle with cancer and covid, but this song so beautifully interpreted is mine and his and it will always be. I listen to it everyday, and at night before going to sleep. My dear Carlos, he is already in Paradise, waiting for me..
