In 1997, Lucca took to the internet with his independent debut, So Satisfied. Having sold 2000 copies within a year, he then followed that up with the 1999 release, Strong Words, Softly Spoken. With only the internet and constant touring, Lucca went on to sell a total of 10,000 records in just a few short years. After garnering the 2001 LA Music Award for best male singer/songwriter, Tony Lucca had created quite a buzz with industry insiders and managed to take to the road opening for recording mega stars like *NSync and Marc Anthony, sharing the stage with a diverse array of artists such as Macy Gray, Johnny Lang, and the late great Chris Whitley.
After several years of indy perseverance, Lucca released his first commercially distributed album in 2004. Shotgun, the consummate road trip record, takes the listener for a ride.
In 2005, Lucca released Anatomy of a Blackbird, a live concert dvd with a close-up, behind the scenes look at life on the road during his 2004 California tour. The documentary and 12 song set give an honest glimpse into the world of an artist hard at work and enjoying every minute of it.
August of 2006 ushered in the release of Lucca's 4th full length studio effort, Canyon Songs. This collection of songs was written and recorded entirely up in the canyons of Los Angeles. Canyon Songs is an homage to the thriving singer/songwriter spirit of the late 60's and early 70's that took Laurel Cayon out of it's mystical obscurity and placed it right dead smack in the middle of mainstream poular music. From the Joni Mitchell-laced "Songbird" to the Eagles-like "Darlin' I" Lucca reveals his earliest influences with the kind of maturity and respect that only comes with time. It's here that Lucca expresses his appreciation for song in a way that seems to be absent in so much of today's contemporary music.
The consummate live performer, Lucca has etched out an extensive national following. From the folk-friendly venues of the lower East side, to the hype-crazed clubs on the Sunset Strip, and with the help of a national street team of close to 1000 devoted listeners, Tony Lucca has made a rather impressive name for himself as an artist not to be missed

I keep tryin, to get it right
I got no story, ain’t been told
These tired excuses, girl they’re gettin old
'Cause darling I don’t wanna let you down
With all these dead end dreams and all this running ‘round
But Darling I could never let you get away
This road keeps callin', out my name
Like a moth I cling to, its eternal flame
'Cause darling I don’t wanna let you down
Hiding from myself, running town to town
But Darling I, could never let you get away
I pray you’ll love me either way
Time on my hands, love on my mind
And I’m always on the run
Stars in my dreams, songs in my heart
And in my eyes you’re the only one
If I’ve taken you for granted,
Go on take me for the fool that I’ve become
'Cause darling I don’t wanna let you down
Hiding from myself, running town to town
But Darling I, could never let you get away
I’ll pray you love me either way
'Cause darling I could never let you down
With all these dead end dreams and all this running ‘round
But Darling I could never let you get away
I’ll do my best to make you stay...
The song “Darlin’ I” by Tony Lucca has a theme of a man who is struggling to come to terms with his life’s direction and the impact that it has on his relationship with a woman. The lyrics, “I guess I’ll miss you, one more night, I keep tryin, to get it right,” reveal the singer’s inner turmoil and vulnerability, which he tries to suppress by leading a life of nomadism, full of “dead-end dreams” and “running around.” He is aware that his excuses have become clichéd, but he fails to break out of the cycle.
The man acknowledges that he is hiding from himself and using the road as an escape. He feels haunted by it, but he is unable to resist its call. The line, “Like a moth I cling to, its eternal flame,” reflects the singer's obsession with the road, which he ironically compares to a moth’s attraction to a dangerous flame.
However, despite his struggles, the man doesn’t want to lose the woman he loves. He recognizes that he needs to keep her in his life, and he promises to “do my best to make you stay.” The chorus, “Darling I don’t wanna let you down, with all these dead-end dreams and all this running 'round,” communicates this sentiment. He admits that he could never let her get away and prays that she will love him no matter what.
Overall, the song portrays the internal conflict that many people face when trying to balance their dreams, search for meaning and purpose with their relationships. It illustrates the struggles of maintaining a relationship while battling personal demons. The man is willing to face his fears and work on the relationship, but he is also honest about his limitations and uncertainty.
