Sailing
Tony Skratchere/Christopher Cross Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, it's not far down to paradise
At least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see, believe me

It's not far to never never land
No reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy
Of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see, believe me

Sailing
Takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
Soon I will be free

Fantasy
It gets the best of me
When I'm sailing

All caught up in the reverie
Every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?

Sailing
Takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Well, it's not far back to sanity
At least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see, really, believe me

Sailing
Takes me away to where I've always heard it could be

Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tony Skratchere/Christopher Cross's "Sailing" are about finding refuge and peace by escaping the reality, sailing to a world of fantasy and forgetting about the troubles that everyday life may bring. The singer expresses their belief that there is a paradise out there waiting to be discovered and experienced, and it only takes a few adjustments to one's sail and the right wind to whisk them away to this paradise. They encourage the listener to believe in the power of the sail as it can do miracles, and it can transport a person to a place where they can rediscover the joy of innocence.

The singer's journey continues as they find themselves lost in the reverie of their own fantasy world, where every sound and every word is a symphony. At this point, the singer invites the listener to believe in their journey and reiterates the transformative power of their journey. They believe that the wind of the sail will carry them away to a place where they've always dreamt of being, and where they will soon be free.

The lyrics also convey the idea of finding sanity and serenity by escaping reality for a brief period. The singer's journey is not only about finding paradise but also about rediscovering oneself and finding peace of mind. It emphasizes the importance of taking a break from the chaos of the world to reset and recenter oneself.

Overall, the song portrays the message of hope, transformation, and freedom that can be achieved by believing in oneself and taking a leap of faith towards a better life.

Inspiring? LOL. Ya all the people who are born to the wrong families, circumstances, countries who can barely survive are just not "inspired" enough. Talk about being out of touch.

God ? why does everything have to be down to God, there's no proof of a God, none whatsoever, there is plenty of evidence that he doesn't exist, lots of evidence, it nauseating to hear everything in the USA referenced to a God, it's a bit like the QAnon idiots in Dallas yesterday waiting for JFK Juniors return .
In the aerial video, about 3 mins in there's a mosque, they believe their God is better than yours, in fact, they believe there's in the one true God, and they don't have any proof either ,one of you must be wrong :)

Loretta
