Overall Meaning

In the song "Come Fi Mash It" by Tony Tuff, the artist talks about his long absence in the dance hall and how he is now back to set the dance hall on fire. He emphasizes his arrival with phrases such as "flash mi come mi flash mi come mi flash it" and "mash mi come fi mash me come fi mash it." He requests that the DJ play tough and outer riddims till people are sick because he is determined to bring back the riddim and light up the dance. He beckons the people to come and join him in this quest towards an epic dance hall experience.

In several instances, Tony Tuff refers to his return as a comeback. For a long time, he was absent, not able to perform in the dance hall. It was at this point that he was given another chance and has since delivered stunning performances. Tony Tuff also talks about a failed love affair where his girl left him for another man, whom she kissed in his presence. He laments that he was so hurt that he couldn't even function in the dancehall.

Going to school (St Mary's High - Highgate, St Mary) 1981. Took bus from Ocho Rios where I lived to Port Maria. Stopped in record store and bought this 45. Was it Studio 1 or Joe Gibbs? I can't remember. Got on the next bus to Highgate - eating banana chips along the way. Got off the bus after paying my 60¢ !!! (Was a dollar from Ochi). I had friends (classmates) with names like Bees Head, Mark Marley, Muscle B, Donkey, Yap Yap, Johnny Dollar, Bam Billy, Bagga, and Joker. Those were the days.
