Sit Right Down
Toots and The Maytals Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah
I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you
I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you
And if you ever say goodbye
And if you ever even try
I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you

I'm gonna love you more and more every day
I'm gonna love you more and more every day
And if you ever say goodbye
And if you ever even try
I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you

Gonna tell your mama
Tell your papa, too
So they'll know exactly
Just what I'm gonna do

If you ever say goodbye
If you ever even try
I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you

Oh, yeah

Gonna tell your mama
Tell your papa, too
So they'll know exactly
Just what I'm gonna do

If you ever say goodbye
And if you ever even try
I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you

I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you
I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you.

i never get together, get together,
Get together when I want.
You know, you know, you hear me?
I never get together, get to,
Get together when I want.
I will never get no way, no way.. no way!
Let me tell you!
I say something you passed up, baby,
Say I will never get no way, yeah, yeah, hey!

I never get together, get together,
Get together when I want.
You know, you know.
I never get together, get to,
Get together when I want.
One more time!
Ooh yeah! Come on now!
Let me tell you!

Grandfather say,
Something is over there for me.
Grandmother say,
Let me tell you what to do now.
My father say,
Son let me share it up for you
My mama say,
Let me tell you what to do.
I'm gonna sit right down and wait,
Wait a little while.
I'm gonna sit right down and wait,
Wait a little while.

I never get no way, no way,
Ooh no way, no way,
And I start to pass that way,
They say I will never get no way.
My father say,
Something is over there for me now.
And I tell him dad now,
Daddy I don't want to be that way now.
My grandmother say son,
Let me tell you just what to do now
I'm gonna sit right down and wait,
Wait a little while.
I'm gonna sit right down and wait,
Wait a little while..

One of the purest, most passionate, soulful and liberated voices is silenced. Toots was a joyful force of nature. I can't stop smiling through the tears of this ska/ rocksteady and reggae titan , gone but never forgotten. This lesser known tune deserves its place alongside funky Kingston with the fantastic loose rhythmic plucking of rocksteady guitar and sheer joyous expression of Toots giving no less than his heart and soul. What a man. Rest now. Bless you Sir Hibbert

Can't get more raw and passionate than this....Fred Hibbert was a phenomenon even surpassing some of his heroes and influences like Otis Redding, Jackie Wilson in my opinion
