Initially playing in colleges, Toquinho's professional career took off in the 1960s at shows promoted by radio personality Walter Silva at the famous Paramount theater in São Paulo. He composed his first recorded song with Chico Buarque entitled "Lua Cheia" (Full Moon). His first big hit was composed in 1970 with Jorge Benjor, "Que Maravilha" (What a Wonder). That same year he was invited by Vinícius de Moraes, co-writer of the worldwide hit song "Garota de Ipanema" (The Girl from Ipanema), to participate in a series of shows in Buenos Aires, forming a solid partnership that would continue for 11 years and produce 120 songs, 25 records and over a thousand shows.
After the death of Vinícius de Moraes in 1980, he went on to pursue a solo career, often performing with other talented musicians like Paulinho da Viola, Danilo Caymmi, Paulinho Nogueira and Chico Buarque. He continues to record and play.

Tanta gente a nascer
Gente a crescer
Sem me iludir, as vezes chorando e as vezes sorrindo
Sem me iludir, as vezes chorando e as vezes sorrindo
Alô alô alô alô alô alô
Alô alô alô alô alô alô
Alô, alô, a noite vem
Tanta gente a nascer
Gente a crescer
Acreditando no amor
Sem me iludir, as vezes chorando e as vezes sorrindo

The lyrics to "Alô-Alô" by Toquinho speak about the passage of time and the importance of staying optimistic and hopeful despite the ups and downs of life. The song begins with the line "Alô, alô, a noite vem" which translates to "Hello, hello, the night is coming," setting the tone for a reflection on the ephemerality of existence. The lyrics then move on to describe the arrival of transportation modes such as jets and trains, which symbolize the constant movement and change of the world around us. Despite the uncertainties and chaos of life, the song emphasizes that there is always a new day to look forward to and a future to shape.
The chorus of the song repeats the words "Vamos por ai" which translates to "Let's go out there." This phrase encourages the listener to approach life head-on, with the understanding that it may be both difficult and beautiful. The lyrics describe the world as "cruel and lindo," meaning both "cruel" and "beautiful" in Portuguese, suggesting that it is possible to find meaning and beauty in life despite its challenges. The song emphasizes that the key to happiness and fulfillment is to remember the value of love and the potential of new beginnings.
In conclusion, "Alô-Alô" is a song that encourages us to keep moving forward, to enjoy the present moment, and to stay optimistic about the future. It teaches us that, despite the hardships we might face, there is always reason to hope and to believe in the power of love.
