Causers of This
Toro y Moi Lyrics

My speech was different and I came across just fine. x2
Am I turning out to be the one who doesn't want to speak?
It's cause I've been alone, my days in life aren't real.
It's cause I've been alone, this is how I feel.
The lyrics to Toro y Moi's song Causers of This suggest a personal reflection on the theme of identity. The opening line of "I met you when you knew who I was" implies that the singer's identity has changed over time, perhaps due to personal growth or self-discovery. Despite this change, the singer is still able to communicate effectively, as suggested by the line "My speech was different and I came across just fine." However, the following lines express a fear of losing this ability to communicate: "Am I turning out to be the one who doesn't want to speak?" This could imply a fear of losing one's sense of self or struggling to form meaningful connections with others.
The last two lines of the song reveal a sense of isolation and detachment from reality: "It's cause I've been alone, my days in life aren't real. It's cause I've been alone, this is how I feel." This loneliness may have caused the singer to question their identity, leading to the overall sense of confusion and uncertainty in the song. The lyrics suggest that the singer is struggling with their identity and their ability to communicate effectively with others.
