Toro y Moi Lyrics

Taking day trips to Bolinas, they can barely see the road
She says, "My meeting's cancelled, in the morning we'll stay
So baby, please wait
Let me give you a hug until this is the light, touch your eyes
Or at least 'til the song finishes and we still try to sing along
Rock and roll is here to stay
A boy who sings about how he's in a squeeze
Ends up with oranges and an onion to greet
She wears those earrings almost every day

Everything seems so simple, you can't tell if it's basically fake

Cars on the edge passing him off the hill
Let me give you a hug until this is the light, touch your eyes
Or at least 'til the song finishes and we still try to sing along
Rock and roll is here to stay
The lyrics to Toro y Moi's song Ratcliff paint a picture of a couple living in a Ratcliff home who take day trips to Bolinas, a coastal town in California. The woman is a doctor and the man is her lover. In the first verse, she cancels a meeting and decides to stay with her lover in the morning. The chorus describes the intimacy and sense of togetherness they share while listening to music and singing along.
The second verse introduces a new character, a boy who sings about being in a tough situation and receiving oranges and an onion as a greeting. It's unclear how this relates to the couple, but it adds to the overall ambiance of the song. The woman wears a pair of earrings almost every day, possibly symbolizing a sentimental attachment to them. The last line, "Cars on the edge passing him off the hill," is a somewhat cryptic description of a car driving dangerously close to the edge of a hill.
The song seems to be about the everyday moments and connections between people, often simple and fleeting but still meaningful. The reference to rock and roll being here to stay reinforces the idea that music can bring people together and provide a shared experience.

I think the lyric is actually "And she's on her knees" instead of "and she's on her needs." :~)
