Still Sound

Adding weight to make it balanced
Saying "it could be too much"
But he's clasping to his tie
There was a finer life when I was with my friends
And I could always see my family
That's what I still want now
'Cause I don't want to be alone
No I don't want to be here alone
While you're there give back a little more
The return could make you notice
That I'm thinking of a moment
And know it's still sound
There was a finer life when you were with us here
And we knew there was a next time
That's what I still want now
Even if I'm here and I think that you won't be waiting
'Cause I don't want to be alone
It's hard where you're living
It's hard where you're living
It's hard where you're living
And I don't want to be here alone
No, I don't want to be here alone
The lyrics to "Still Sound" by Toro y Moi hint at feelings of isolation and longing for connection with loved ones. The first verse describes a person who feels like they are trying to maintain balance in their life, but struggling with the weight of their responsibilities. They may feel like they are carrying too much or that the burden is "too much" to handle alone. The image of someone "clasping to his tie" suggests a sense of feeling trapped or constrained.
The second verse shifts the perspective to a narrator who remembers a time when they were surrounded by friends and family. They long for that sense of belonging and wanting to be with people they care about, even though they know they cannot return to that exact moment. The repetition of "I don't want to be alone" emphasizes the singer's feelings of loneliness and desire for connection.
The chorus serves as a reminder to give back to others in order to receive something in return. The return that the singer seeks is the feeling of being understood and emotionally supported. The final lines of the song repeat the sentiment of not wanting to be alone, emphasizing the theme of loneliness that runs throughout the song.
Overall, "Still Sound" speaks to universal human experiences of feeling isolated and desiring connection with others. The lyrics are relatable, especially in today's increasingly digitally-focused world where genuine connection can be hard to come by.
