They only dry my eyes out
Ever since I was born I couldn't see
Ever since I could see I couldn't find
Why you close your lips so tight
When I try to kiss you off goodbye
Ohh Ohh
I never wanted to be never understanding
Learning comprehension leaving everyone
Wondering where you went
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it not?
Doesn't matter does it?
The lyrics to Toro y Moi's "Thanks Vision" tell the story of a person who feels disconnected from those around them. They long for connection, but every attempt to connect with others only leaves them feeling more isolated. The line "Turn those fans away from me, they only dry my eyes out," indicates that the singer feels overwhelmed by attention from others, and that it only serves to make them feel more alone.
The lyrics also delve into the theme of not understanding others and not being understood. The line "I never wanted to be never understanding, learning comprehension leaving everyone wondering where you went," suggests that the singer is grappling with the struggle to comprehend others while also feeling misunderstood themselves. The repetition of the line "Doesn't matter does it not?" at the end of the song suggests that the singer has come to a place of acceptance, recognizing that their struggle to connect with others might not matter in the grand scheme of things.
Overall, "Thanks Vision" paints a picture of someone who is grappling with feelings of isolation and disconnection, but ultimately finds solace in acceptance. The lyrics express a complex mix of emotions, ranging from frustration and sadness to a sense of peace and acceptance.
