Joy
Torun Eriksen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Down on my knees
Delightful necessity
With no apology for my curves, my behind
My belly, my sounds
Obscene as it maybe
Obsession has gotten me
Feeling high while I'm drifting below
Glinting surfaces mellow and moist
Take my up, take me
Let me enjoy
Feeling wanted and used like toy
That's not bought but has been given
That won't be kept hidden
And is too dear to be destroyed
Down on my back
Down on my knees
Deliciously dirty
Without apologies for my looks, my lust
My breath, my bust
Obscure as it may be
I'm observing the one who is me
Drowning in joy
Carried sideways by waves in convoy
Crying while I am laughing
I'm spoiled
But it's good
I want more of this joy
'Til it all gets so hot
It explodes
'Til my cheeks turn all flush
And the flesh felt by hands, felt by hearts
Becomes pounding and red
Pure pleasure
No disgust
No disguised measure of quality
Pure appealing
No afterwards
Cleaning up
Nothing but
Summing up
Kisses and humming
Drowning in joy
Carried sideways by waves in convoy
Crying while I am laughing
I'm spoiled
But it's good
I want more of this joy
'Til it all gets so hot
It explodes
'Til my cheeks turn all flush
And the flesh felt by hands, felt by hearts
Becomes pounding and red
As long as there's joy
Lasting 'til we're curled up in a coil
As were we one before egos unfold
It's okay to let go and enjoy
In togetherness to be withdrawn
While the scent of something fresh and warm

The lyrics of Torun Eriksen's song "Joy" speak to the indulgence in pleasure and the freedom to enjoy oneself without inhibition or apologies for physical appearances or sounds. The lines "delightful necessity with no apology for my curves, my behind, my belly, my sounds" depict a sense of unapologetic self-love, acknowledging and embracing all parts of oneself without shame or societal expectations. The repeated phrase "drowning in joy" emphasizes the overwhelming nature of the experience and how it can feel like being carried away by waves.
In contrast to societal norms that may label such indulgence as obscene or dirty, the lyrics celebrate the experience of pleasure and the desire for more of it. The line "pure pleasure, no disgust, no disguised measure of quality" speaks to the idea that pleasure in itself is enough, and there doesn't need to be any shame or justification for it. The song also highlights the significance of shared pleasure, as demonstrated in the line "flesh felt by hands, felt by hearts," emphasizing the importance of connection and intimacy in the experience of pleasure.
Overall, "Joy" is a song that celebrates self-love, pleasure, and the freedom to indulge and enjoy without shame or hesitation. It encourages a sense of liberation from societal norms and convictions, emphasizing the significance of embracing and appreciating all parts of oneself.
