Come Together
Tosh Peter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You better come together
Learn to love one another
We got to come together
Learn to love one another

We got to come together
Learn to love your brother
We got to come together
Learn to love your sister

One eye can't see
One ear don't hear
One hand can't clap
One foot don't run

Where do we go from here
Here, there or nowhere
I said where do we go from here
Here, there or nowhere

One eye can't see
One ear don't hear
One hand can't clap
One foot don't run

Birds unite
Fishes unite
Animals unite
Mankind still fight

One eye can't see
One ear don't hear

One hand can't clap
One foot don't run

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tosh Peter's song "Come Together" convey a message of unity and love. He speaks directly to the listener, urging them to "come together" and learn to love one another, both their brothers and sisters. Through emphasizing the physical limitations of the human body, he sends a message that we cannot function in society without each other, without learning to work together and support each other. The line "Where do we go from here" expresses the sentiment of feeling lost or unsure of what steps to take next as a collective society, but Tosh Peter's solution is clear: we must come together and unite to move forward.

The repeated phrases throughout the lyrics, as well as the use of animals as examples of unity, are a way of simplifying the complex issues facing humanity. Tosh Peter's message is that if animals and birds can cooperate, then surely humans can as well. The lyrics emphasize the importance of coming together and learning to work in harmony, highlighting the serious consequences of not doing so. Overall, "Come Together" is a hopeful song that stresses the importance of unity and love in order to progress as a society.

Man I grew up with both Bob Marley and Peter Tosh and I like them just about the same. Had a laser disc of a concert with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, The Wailers. It was something else!

Raised up on doo wop and country myself but I discovered reggae and the powers that be before I reached teenage years. Or just AS I reached teenage years. I remember seeing on the news when Peter was killed although I wasn't fully sure who he was at the time.

Big up to your parents.
