Harbor
Touché Amoré Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Call it a learning process
And I've never been that quick
Because I take things as they come
And I respond how I see fit
But it's easy to get distracted
As I've been living life abroad
But I'm starved for your acceptance
And I work for your applause

I'd always envisioned myself as a giver
But as I reflect, I've left something to be desired
Not that my heart hasn't ever delivered
But that it's never felt this inspired

To have direction, to feel complete
To embrace affection, to end all the woe is me
But mainly to harbor the love that I have to give
But for tonight, let's just stay inside
Well it's far too loud and I just want quiet

And if we die before we wake
I'll blame it on the past mistakes
Without you I'm not pure
And without you I'm not clean

But if I'm going down with you
Then you're going down with me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Harbor" by Touché Amoré delve into themes of self-reflection, personal growth, and the desire for acceptance and love. The singer acknowledges that they have often taken things as they come and responded in their own way without being particularly quick or decisive. However, they admit that this approach can easily lead to distractions, especially as they live life abroad. Despite this, they crave acceptance from others and work hard for their applause, indicating a longing for validation and recognition.

The lyrics also reveal a revelation about the singer's self-perception. They had always seen themselves as someone who gives to others, but upon reflection, they feel there is something lacking in their efforts. The singer acknowledges that their heart has indeed delivered love in the past, but it is only now that they feel truly inspired to do so.

The song then transitions to a desire for direction and fulfillment, wanting to embrace affection and leave behind any feelings of self-pity. The singer yearns to harbor the love they have to give, indicating their desire for a deep and meaningful connection. However, for the present moment, they simply want to stay inside, seeking quiet and solace amidst the chaotic world around them.

The closing lines introduce a sense of fatalistic unity. The singer suggests that if they were to die before waking or fully realizing their desires, they would hold past mistakes accountable. They acknowledge that without their loved one, they feel impure and unclean, highlighting the transformative and empowering nature of love. However, they also express a willingness to face any downfall together, implying a deep and interconnected bond.

And that person needs to be set free

To harbor the love that I have to give

@dakotadavis1221

+LerySarti just because YOU don't like something doesn't make it overrated

@manjon217

+LerySarti lol dude the style of music you sing is what's overrated. This type of music takes a lot of hard work a creativity. You wanna be pop songs are dime a dozen. Post hardcore is some of the toughest stuff to write lyrically and instrumentally.
