"The Sex" by Tove Lo is a song that explores the idea that the beginning stages of a relationship are often the most thrilling and exhilarating. The repeated line "The passion in the beginning is always gonna be the best part of it" emphasizes the idea that the initial infatuation and physical attraction between two people is what drives the excitement and intensity in a relationship. However, as the song progresses, Tove Lo implies that this passion and desire may not last forever and that the reality of a relationship can often fall short of the initial fantasy.
The lyrics also suggest that the physical aspect of a relationship can be empowering and liberating for women, with Tove Lo singing about exploring her own body and desires without shame or judgement. The repetition of the phrase "I really don't give a f*ck about you anyways" further emphasizes this sense of independence and confidence, as she asserts her own agency and autonomy in a sexual relationship.
Overall, "The Sex" is a complex and honest portrayal of the ups and downs of a physical relationship, celebrating the excitement and passion of the beginning stages while acknowledging the complexities and challenges that come with removing oneself emotionally and physically.
