Biography:
From the opening line of their latest release (“Breaking Silence”) TRACENINE go straight for the throat and immediately command the respect and attention of listeners. By fusing real world events with captivating melody and justifiable anger, T9 detonates an unparalleled sound with mass appeal. They’ve scored nominations for best live and metal band, won $10,000 as Paragon Band Battle Champions, showcased at Canadian Music Week and were Rock Search finalists in the same competition that helped launch the career of Finger Eleven. Renowned for delivering powerful live performances, T9 has entertained countless sold out crowds in support of bands like Hedley, State Of Shock, Matthew Good, Nazareth, Social Code, Bif Naked, The Salads, Faber Drive and Meredith Brooks. Like many great bands that have come before them, TRACENINE has experienced first hand the multiple levels of corruption which exist in the industry today. As James Hetfield so eloquently put “when it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel is just a freight train coming your way” is an all too familiar feeling that the band has faced time and time again. The last big heartbreak came as recent as January 2008 when a recording agreement with an independent label out of LA, worth over $1.2 million dollars, turned out to be fraudulent. After many broken promises and missed deadlines the band licked their wounds and set fire to the contract. Not ones to dwell on the negative, T9 took fate into their own hands and created a label, publishing and management company called Armed Music Inc. in silent partnership with a handful of trustworthy industry reps. The members of TRACENINE share a sincere passion for life, music and justice. From day one they made a pact to check their ego’s at the door and focus on what was best for the band. The end result is an extraordinary synergy which cannot be denied. Without question ‘09 is the year of T9!
Betrayed
Tracenine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Long enough to listen?
Cause if you're going to be mad at me
You better have good reason yeah
[Pre-Chorus]
C'mon [x4] take a cheap shot
You know you wanna
I can't blame you
[Chorus:]
I know you feel betrayed
I let you down that day
Everything I see
Is just another reminder of you
You're not the only one
Who's drowning in this pain
This was no conspiracy
No hidden agenda
Just the sad reality
That the truth hurts
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]
[Bridge:]
Open up your mind to the possibility
That what we said to you came out of honesty
Accept the fact that there was no conspiracy
Agree to disagree so we can live peacefully
In Tracenine’s song “Betrayed,” the singer acknowledges the pain he caused someone he cares about by admitting to letting them down. The lyrics convey a sense of remorse and a desire to make things right. The opening line, “Are you able to shut your mouth long enough to listen?” reveals that the singer is aware that he must take responsibility for his actions and is open to being confronted about them. The following line, “Cause if you’re going to be mad at me, you better have good reason yeah,” reinforces this idea, indicating that the singer is willing to listen and learn from his mistakes.
The pre-chorus, with the repetitive refrain of “C’mon, take a cheap shot,” suggests that the singer is not trying to avoid criticism but is instead eager to confront the situation head-on. The chorus, which repeats the phrase “I know you feel betrayed,” acknowledges the depth of the hurt caused and indicates that the singer understands the responsibility he has for the situation. The line “Everything I see is just another reminder of you” reveals that the person is still very much present in the singer’s mind and heart, underscoring the magnitude of the impact their relationship had on him.
The bridge provides a hopeful note by suggesting that there is a possibility for reconciliation and peace. By encouraging the listener to “Open up your mind to the possibility,” the singer is showing that he is willing to work through the difficulties and reach a place of mutual understanding. In the end, “Betrayed” is a song about taking responsibility for one’s actions, showing empathy towards those who have been hurt, and working towards honest communication and resolution.
