It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Tracie Spencer's song Imagine is a cover of John Lennon's iconic song of the same name, released in 1971. The lyrics of Imagine are a wish for a world without any borders, religion, or possessions. The song encourages listeners to imagine a peaceful world where humans live in harmony with one another, free of the constraints of religion, nationalism, and material possessions.
The first verse of the song, "Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try," speaks to the idea of a world without religion. The notion of no heaven, no hell, and no religion can be seen as controversial, but it is important to note that Lennon wasn't necessarily advocating for individuals to stop believing in religion altogether. Instead, he hoped for a future where people could live without the strife and conflict that religion can sometimes cause.
The second verse, "Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do," encourages listeners to contemplate a world where people are not divided by borders and nationalism. In this imagined world, individuals live as equals with no need to fight for a cause or go to war. The final verse speaks to the concept of no possessions, where mankind will not be bound by material possessions, power, or money.
