Waste
Tragedy Ann Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is your sole lonely cause you put your faith in the king of things?
Friend, how long will you suffer.
Where are your friends to dry your tears?
Is it worth it to have "control", or do you spend your time cowering in fear?
All that I desire is to see that you find truth.
I am only one but I found it.
Reaching in.
The song Waste by Tragedy Ann is a heart-wrenching call to a friend who is lost in the pursuit of materialistic pleasures and control. The first two lines of the song ask if the friend's heart is being wasted, meaning if they are not able to find true fulfillment in their life despite having everything they desire. The lyrics then question if the friend even knows the true meaning of love, as they seem to have put all their faith in the "king of things".
The singer then asks how long the friend will continue to suffer in this way, and wonders where their friends are to support them during this time of struggle. The lyrics then pose the question of whether having control over everything in one's life is really worth it if it means living in constant fear.
The chorus of the song expresses the singer's desire for their friend to find the truth and to know that no matter what, there is always someone there for them. The final line of the song, "I am only one but I found it. Reaching in." speaks to the power of one person to make a difference in the life of someone they care about, even if it seems like an impossible task.
