Point Zéro
Trail of Tears Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hear the madman scream
As the pain whistles within
See the madman's face
As he understands

From the left to the right to the front
Only to remain at point zero
From the depths of perversion
He watches as time draws near

Hear the madman scream
As the pain whistles within

See the madman's face
As he understands

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Trail of Tears's song Point Zero depict a sense of despair and hopelessness. The opening line talks about a madman screaming while the pain whistles within. This could be a metaphor for the overwhelming emotions that consume a person who has reached the brink of sanity. The following line talks about seeing the madman's face as he understands. This could be a reference to how the person has come to terms with their situation and is slowly accepting their fate.

The chorus talks about being stuck at point zero. This could be a metaphor for feeling stuck in life, with no progress or growth. The lyrics describe moving from left to right to front, but still remaining at the same point. This could be a reference to trying to escape one's situation but ultimately realizing that there is no way out. The depths of perversion could refer to the dark thoughts that plague a person who is struggling with their mental health. The pain that whistles within could be seen as a way of describing the intense and persistent emotional pain that the person is experiencing. The song ends with the madman's scream and understanding, leaving the listener with a sense of sadness and despair.

@Howdy Partner First of all, I'm sorry for making you write this long of a comment. 😭

By promise, I mean, if Garfiel's part of the future dialogue was the result of Garfiel keeping his promise to kill Subaru - where Subaru has told Garfiel to kill him if things go bad (with some hopefully reasonable explanation) because (and we're still just speculating) Subaru got nearly immortal and Garfiel would be probably the only one capable of killing him. And Garfiel would reluctantly agree.

Now, say, if Otto found out about Subaru's request, that Subaru asked Garfiel to kill him, how would he react?

I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to people's feelings but I think he would be pissed. Probably at both of them, but mostly at Subaru. Disregarding other people's feelings like this is something he wouldn't accept, and if Subaru thinks it's okay for him to just die, then he should've left him in that cave to die. because there is no way he's just letting that happen.

You also say that it was Ricardo who found him in that cave but that wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Subaru.
+ I highly doubt that Otto and Ricardo will have an argument this deep

Also, "Murder Shush"!? 😂😂

@Llybirdey
If by promise you mean Subaru's relationship with Satella (and Envy) then I don't think Otto could just yell at him so easily since Subaru doesn't even remember why/when/how he swore that oath and has been suffering in silence this whole time.

If anything, I believe Otto would curse his own inability to have done something earlier for this friend who went through so much for not only him, but for so many others. I doubt Otto would find out about RBD though. He might, but the chances are slim unless the Murder Shush is no longer a thing. (I mean when Envy prevents him from speaking while scolding him, sometimes through outright killing people he loves.)

Even if the Murder Shush is undone, I doubt Subaru would let out ''I can return by deaaaaaath!'' to his friends so easily like he did with Echidna since:

1. He was isolated in the dream castle and Echidna was presumed dead and harmless (which is no longer true lmao)
2. He knows that if the information somehow leaks either to Roswaal or his enemies that he dies to RBD, then they would just abuse him very easily.
3. He likely grasps that after coming such a long way without telling them, it would break their hearts and demolish their morale... especially Emilia. I can't imagine her reaction if she somehow found out that Subaru was enduring inhumane amounts of pain, grief, sorrow and suffering all while she conveniently forgot... for her sake no less. Hell, if she ever discovered she herself at one point was quite content as Subaru died in her lap and knowing that was her actual first kiss with him as they both got devoured by rabbits... I doubt she could come to terms with that fact.

For these reasons I can't see Subaru telling Otto about RBD even if he is no longer restrained by Envy... though he might be able to discover that he ''somehow'' undoes the inevitable by going back in time/world hopping like Roswaal did on his own. I can see that happening, since it would only be a partial discovery of his power... but it would still greatly relieve Subaru to have a friend like Otto know his situation and be less inclined to deem him 'insane' if he has a sudden, abrupt, 180 degree change in attitude.

Also, the one who got him out of the cave of the Witch Cult where he was tied up was Ricardo wasn't it? He's talking to the person who saved him from that situation, so I believe he might be talking to Ricardo or one of his affiliates in this case.

(Jesus this is long. I might as well take over as the Archbishop of Greed lol.)

Given your interpretation of Al’s vision, I’m leaning more into the idea that he’s the second sage candidate.
For those who have forgotten, Roswaal stated at the end arc 4 (wn) that there are two Sage candidates, and that Subaru is the closest to becoming a sage.
The one requirement to be a sage that we know of is to be qualified to participate in a witch’s tea party, which we can assume Al is since he know’s Satella.
Other than that, his abilities are the closest to the only known sage candidate in the series.

Other than that, the word sage (or wise man depending on how the word is translated) has the connotation of a person who knows a lot of things, and is generally experienced in life. Subaru’s Return by Death helps him both gather information, as well as helping him live a life of experience.
Furthermore, his Cor Leonis helps him gather more information he shouldn’t normally know, which helps him.

Al’s rewinding abilities also help him in the same manner as Subaru’s Return by Death.

Another thing to consider is the case of Hoshin of the wastes.

It was said in arc 5 that one might consider Hoshib a sage in his own right.
I don’t know if he’s actually a sage, but that comment leads me to think he at least possesses at least one of the traits needed to be called a sage.

There is the fact that Hoshin knew Echidna, which obviously helps this claim, but I think the most important thing when it came to Hoshin being considered a sage by the public is the fact that he made long lasting changes on the world.
What I’m saying is that you probably won’t be called a sage if you haven’t done something huge enough for the world to notice you.

Right now Al and Subaru is set to fight in a civil war that is set to change the course of world history, and if they contribute enough, they might actually be called a sage at the end.

That theory with siruis makes perfect sense. But i dont see how sirius could make THAT much destruction.

I choose to doubt tappei's words about frederica being key character in arc 11. It just doesnt make sense. She isnt that important to the story so far. We know tappei likes to troll people in his qnas.

I hope louis doesnt get redempted. If she does it better be very satisfying and not just "nooooooo she is a loli we cant kill her". Currently my expectations from her redemption is high or i will be very salty about it. Subaru suffered way too much because of her. Far from anybody else.

Also considering Rom's words should we expect a time skip between arc 7-8 or 8-9? Dont forget petra also sounded mature in her part. I believe we will see a big time skip in the future.

Rest of your theories are reasonable. keep up the good work.

Life Hacks

@Natsuki Subaru I think they will definitely happen in a failed loop or maybe even in the original loop.

@Jakez123 This might be a dumb question but please help me. The third trial shows emilia futures that might or might not happen or futures that will happen for sure? I'm asking this because I don't believe garfiel will ever say that he will kill Subaru, a person garfiel loves as an older brother. As you already said, subaru would have to do some terrible things to be hated by someone like garfiel. I'm confused because there are a lot of yotubers that are saying that the future shown to emilia will happen and a lot of other saying that maybe or maybe not happen.

@HungryLittleHeavy yup, the author stated that Emilia's mom is a full human, because in order to have the half elf Emilia, she must have one full elf parent and a full human parent, and so since fortuna and her brother are full elves, that leaves the mother being full human, and among the 7 witches who are confirmed to be full human is Minerva who oh so happens to have hugged Emilia in the light novel adaptation during her tea party...

scoop1215

@HungryLittleHeavy she could be Archie's mom same hair same eye color. Who knows

Andrew Parker

@HungryLittleHeavy she’s most likely Emilia’s mother but is not confirmed or explained who is her mum yet
