When I felt so all alone
I had no one to call my own
A family and friends would pacify
But none of them could satisfy
If I knew then what I know now
To save a life I'll tell you howOpen your heart let the light of love come in
Though trial and error you'll win
The search is over, if I'd only known
You were right there all the time
You cared you loved me when I could not love myself
You are what I was looking for
(Vs 2)
You took care of every need
Supplied a warmth and love to me
You heard my cry, you answered every call
You pick me up each time I fall
Now that I, I know you well
The secrets of my heart to you I'll tell
You gave me hope, you took away my fears
When I cried you dried my tears
The search is over, if I'd only known
You were right there all the time
You cared, you loved me when I could not love myself
You are what I was looking for
The search is over (search is over),
If I'd only known (If I'd only known)You were right there all the time (right by my side)
You cared, you loved (cared,
You loved me) me when I could not
Love myself (when I could not love myself)
You were the one I was looking for (the search is over)
The search is over (it's over), if I'd only known (If I'd only known)
You were right there all the time (right by my side)
You cared, you loved (cared,
You loved me) me when I could not love myself
The lyrics to Tramaine Hawkins's song "The Search Is Over" convey a deeply personal and emotional journey of self-discovery and finding solace and love in someone unexpected. In the first verse, the singer expresses feelings of loneliness and the inability to find fulfillment in family and friends. Despite seeking comfort in these relationships, none of them are able to truly satisfy the void within.
However, as the lyrics progress, the tone shifts to one of realization and gratitude. The singer acknowledges that if they had known then what they know now, they would have recognized that the love they were searching for was right there all along. It is revealed that the person who cared and loved them, even when they couldn't love themselves, was always by their side.
The second verse further emphasizes the depth of this connection. The person being addressed is described as someone who provides for every need and offers warmth and love. They are portrayed as a source of support, answering every call and lifting the singer up whenever they fall. As the relationship grows stronger, the singer decides to open their heart and share their secrets, entrusting this person with their deepest vulnerabilities. This trust has brought hope and eased their fears, with the person being there to wipe away their tears.
Overall, the lyrics of "The Search Is Over" capture the transformative power of love and the realization that sometimes we find what we are searching for in the most unexpected places.
