The band has performed at many national festivals including Coachella, Stagecoach, Summerfest, Bumbershoot, and Pickathon. In 2011, they performed at several large folk festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival and 2011 ROMP roots and branches. They are scheduled to play the Sasquatch Festival, Bonnaroo, All Good Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Lollapalooza in 2012.
2014 saw the release of Trampled by Turtles's seventh studio album, Wild Animals, on July 15th. The band tapped Alan Sparhawk, from the band Low, to produce Wild Animals. Sparhawk's influence is evident in the band's seemingly more alternative, high lonesome sound. The night of Wild Animals' release, TBT made their second appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. On August 16th, Trampled by Turtles headlined a sold out show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO.

Stranger
Trampled By Turtles Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
After all the Hell that I've been through
So I'm getting out of this town for a while
Spend the rest of my nights and days
Wishing I was back here with you
And you can see it all washing away
It's over right before the start
I went through all the pieces
Just trying no to tear it apart
And I'm a stranger now
Ain't no one else around
Can't forget about the sound of your alibi
I know you've been here before
We already gave the world to you, man
How can you make us beg on our knees?
For you might be the end of us all
I love so many people
That up and said good-bye
And I'm a stranger now
Ain't no one else around
Can't forget about the sound of your alibi
I know you've been here before
You can cut me once and then I'd bleed all night
Still might make it back home alive
You can spread my name all over this town
'Cause you bought and sold the angels
And you're coming around back for more
And I'm a stranger now
Ain't no one else around
Can't forget about the sound of your alibi
I know you've been here before
The lyrics to Trampled by Turtles’ “Stranger” depict a man who has undergone severe emotional trauma trying to leave his past behind. The opening verse, “It’s all I can do to walk out of her alive / After all the Hell that I’ve been through / So I’m getting out of this town for a while / Spend the rest of my nights and days / Wishing I was back here with you,” emphasizes his struggle to escape the pain while also acknowledging his reluctance to leave what is familiar to him. The chorus, “And I’m a stranger now / Ain’t no one else around / Can’t forget about the sound of your alibi / I know you’ve been here before,” highlights the singer’s alienation from his surroundings, expressing his feeling of being isolated and disconnected from his environment.
As the song progresses, it becomes increasingly evident that the man is also suffering from a sense of betrayal, likely resulting from some kind of broken relationship. The lines, “You can cut me once and then I’d bleed all night / Still might make it back home alive / You can spread my name all over this town / ‘Cause you bought and sold the angels / And you’re coming around back for more,” suggests that he feels someone has wronged him and that he is trying to recover emotionally.
Overall, “Stranger” is a poignant commentary on the human experience of loss and recovery, particularly in the aftermath of difficult life events.
