The band has performed at many national festivals including Coachella, Stagecoach, Summerfest, Bumbershoot, and Pickathon. In 2011, they performed at several large folk festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival and 2011 ROMP roots and branches. They are scheduled to play the Sasquatch Festival, Bonnaroo, All Good Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Lollapalooza in 2012.
2014 saw the release of Trampled by Turtles's seventh studio album, Wild Animals, on July 15th. The band tapped Alan Sparhawk, from the band Low, to produce Wild Animals. Sparhawk's influence is evident in the band's seemingly more alternative, high lonesome sound. The night of Wild Animals' release, TBT made their second appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. On August 16th, Trampled by Turtles headlined a sold out show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO.

Just gonna have to go your separate way
Well I lost myself a thousand times
Perhaps I'll never win
You ain't gonna drive me from my home again
Well you ain't gonna sing your sorry song today
Your teary eyes, they got your whole world cryin'
Keep knockin' on my door
You ain't gonna sing your sorry song today
Well you ain't gonna put me in my grave tonight
You promise me you are my friend
Well I hear your words comin' out
They ain't gonna save my soul
Ain't gonna put me in my gave tonight
Well you ain't gonna drive me from my home again
You're just gonna have to go your separate way
Well I lost myself a thousand times
Perhaps I'll never win
You ain't gonna drive me from my home again
The lyrics of Trampled by Turtles’ song Written On The Wall are a defiant declaration of independence against someone who has repeatedly tried to harm or control the singer. The opening of the song, “Well you ain’t gonna drive me from my home again, just gonna have to go your separate way,” sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The singer is determined to stand their ground and not let this person push them around anymore. They have lost themselves “a thousand times” but they are not going to let this person win.
The second verse has the singer rejecting the other person’s attempt to manipulate them emotionally. They call out this person’s “sorry song” and accuse them of making everyone around them cry with their “teary eyes.” The third verse sees the singer rejecting the other person’s attempt to control their beliefs. They accuse this person’s “preachers and followers” of trying to convert them and insist that they will not be swayed.
Overall, this song is a powerful statement of self-determination and resistance. The singer may not be able to control everything that happens to them, but they are determined not to let anyone else control them either.
