The worst wounds were not visible, but rather existed in the hearts and minds of the people affected by war

Ordinary people are not able to perceive the psychological and emotional damage caused by war

But the angel could see clearly
As a spiritual being, the angel had a heightened sensitivity to the pain and grief of the people

Were the scars upon the dreams
The dreams and aspirations of the people were shattered by the war, leading to long-lasting, deep-seated despair

The carol was not well-known, but it represented the message of the holiday and the beauty of the season

And even on that battlefield
Even in a place fraught with war and conflict, there was beauty and humanity left

The song somehow belonged
The song had a special presence, as if it had been written for the specific people in that place and moment

And as he flew away
The angel, enlightened and inspired, prepared to leave that place

The angel did take note
The angel took careful notice of the power and meaning of music, even in the midst of despair
