Yeah, but the Rock & Roll HOF is full of non-rock artists/groups at this point. It's more of a hall of fame for anyone who made a big splash in American and British music (and sold a lot of records) and it doesn't really matter who is in there or not in there as far as categorizing their music. And it doesn't decrease an artist or group's legitimacy to be in the HOF or increase it by including them. We should all feel pretty indifferent to the the Rock & Roll HOF to be honest, because it's a dumb mess. I wouldn't be against Kraftwerk getting a spot, but it certainly doesn't matter. We know their importance.

Kraftwerk founding father, Florian Schneider just passed today. GOD rest the soul of one of Techno's first innovators. Growing up in the Boogie Down Bx, this was that tune. When someone came by with their "Box" and jammed this...You better believe your head was gonna start boppin ! Was fortunate enough to have seen these guys live about a decade ago. I can still remember running through the Brooklyn housing projects where I was raised with my friends going to the bodaga to buy snacks. the guys would play this record on the DJ equipment they bought outside. I liked it so much, I stood by one of those giant speakers - to really feel the bass - that when one of my friends called me I didnt hear them utill they tapped me on my shoulders. Soulsonic Force didn’t sample it for Planet Rock. They borrowed some of the Melodies, harmony and rhythms. It’s different enough that it’s a different song altogether. They replayed them on synthesizers/drum machine.

What was so groundbreaking about this song is that it was loved across genres . It was being danced to downtown in the punk, new wave clubs and in Brooklyn and The Bronx... Their song Autobahn from '74 remained solely on rock stations I believe, but this one crossed all boundaries... still can't sit still to it..

I heard this song for the first time at a club call pulsations a club about 15 miles outside Philadelphia. This club had a sound system second to none. Subs so big people were dancing on them. Towers all over with 4 massive 15 inch woofers with scoops at the bottom, half moon tweeter arrays in the ceiling, power amp racks with the meters banging out on every beat. When I tell you the bass took over your chest right down to your soul is a understatement. Trans Europe Express coming thru that system was life changing. OK- Time to make a TRUE CONFESSION. Back in 1977, at the age of 15, I got a job as a D.J. in my hometown. Yes, as an actual ON THE AIR disc jockey that could, AMAZINGLY, play just about anything I wanted to from their extensive collection. At some point, I came across this one VERY UNIQUE album from a group that I'd never heard of. It just totally BLEW MY MIND because I had never heard anything like it before in my life! So, late at night, when I thought I could get away with it, I would play some of the tracks off of it. LIKE THIS ONE! And you know what? I got TONS of requests to play more songs by them! So I did! But this is the CONFESSION part: My BEST FRIEND & I (you know who you are D.G.) would go in to my room late at night while my parents were asleep and put this album on, with the lights turned off and a STROBE LIGHT going on and a few beers from his brothers fridge (and maybe a few other mood enhancers) and go off on a most amazing trip on the TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS- need I say more? So yeah, this takes me BACK TO THE DAY! These guys were AHEAD OF THEIR TIME and that's why I always LOVE ME some KRAFTWERK! LONG LIVE KRAFTWERK!!!

This song changed my life. It was the start of my European dream. I moved to Germany in 1994, experienced the whole techno movement of the 90s (5x Love Parade in Berlin!) and had the greatest time of my life. Thanks Kraftwerk!

My very fist album purchase. Still got it. Tore the Clubs up back in the day. A lot of club and hiphop DJs were the reason this track got bridged. And ya had to have the long version to get the feel !!!!

I was 19yrs old hanging out with my girlfriend in the Bronx when I first heard this song on a black radio station (WWBLS) in 1977 and it was Kraftwerk. Yes!! this song was played a lot in clubs all over NYC.

Very cool! If you were nineteen years old in 1977 I am envious of you! I'm an 80's baby but am fascinated and intriged by the 70's. I am fascinated by almost all era's, dating back to Victorian days as well, but something about the 70's makes me feel like I missed something big. In fact, I know I did. All that great music ya'll had and ya'll got to experience it NEW! Ya'll clothes, shoes and mutton chops are a bit funny, almost clown like, but I get it. I totally effing get it. Still pretty dope.

Ya'll had drive-in movies, Studio 54 and clearly ya'll skating rinks were the shit! Ya'll got to hear everything new from Kraftwerk and the inception of hip hop to The Doobie Brothers and WAR! So many great bands ya'll had. REAL bands too! Not pseudo-bands. Hundreds of them are dancing through my head right now. Everyone on stage had an instrument they played. Everyone could actually sing! Authentic talent!

Kraftwerk were on a whole other level and influenced many artists/bands to come after them. Gotta love the sparks plug sound effects and the trains coming and going.
