Ignition & Friction
Transit Lyrics

Set me free of my hopes and dreams
It's so hard to pinpoint the blame
Then there's me, the general consensus judge and jury
Then there's me, everybody screaming guilty
And I'm wrong as you fan the flames into my face
You can try to catch my name, save it for a lonely grave
Ignition and friction burn away
You set a fire and you walked away
And I'm still learning how to read all the smoke signals you send me
Set a fire and you walked away
Get the picture I was framed
It's so hard to pinpoint the blame
Then there's me, the general consensus judge and jury
Then there's me, everybody screaming guilty
And I'm wrong as you fan the flames into my face
I'm wrong as you watch the pieces fall away
You can try to catch my name, save it for a lonely grave
Ignition and friction burn away
I won't take up too much space
Save it for a lonely grave
No one's visiting me anyway
And I'm wrong as you fan the flames into my face
I'm wrong as you watch the pieces fall away
You can try to catch my name, save it for a lonely grave
Ignition and friction burn away
The song "Ignition & Friction" by Transit delves into the aftermath of a relationship that ended in flames. The opening line, "You set a fire and you walked away," sets the tone for the song's exploration of the pain and confusion that come with being left behind. The singer is struggling to come to terms with the end of the relationship, feeling lost and adrift without their hopes and dreams. The ambiguity of the situation is emphasized by the line, "It's so hard to pinpoint the blame," leaving the listener to wonder who is at fault for the breakup and the ensuing emotional turmoil.
The chorus highlights the singer's feelings of guilt and wrongdoing, even though it was their partner who caused the destruction. The repetition of the phrase "Then there's me" underscores the singer's sense of isolation and loneliness, as everyone around them seems to be pointing fingers and assigning blame. Despite this, the partner continues to add fuel to the fire, figuratively and literally, as the flame and smoke imagery suggests.
As the song progresses, the singer seems to be resigned to their fate, accepting that they are destined for a "lonely grave" where no one will visit them. This sense of hopelessness is further amplified by the repeated refrain of "ignition and friction burn away," indicating a sense of finality and destruction.
Overall, "Ignition & Friction" is a powerful exploration of the aftermath of a fiery and destructive relationship, exploring feelings of guilt, isolation, and despair.
