Indoor Voices
Transit Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to Transit's song "Indoor Voices" are a powerful statement about the worth of an individual. The opening line, "I'm getting tired of being told that 'You're only one person to the world'" speaks to the commonly-held belief that each person is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. However, the following line, "when, to one person, you could be the world" speaks to the importance of one person's impact on another.
The song emphasizes the value of human connection and reminds the listener that their actions and words can have a profound effect on others. It also challenges the idea that success is only defined by making a difference on a large scale, and suggests that impacting even one person's life in a positive way is a worthy achievement.
The lyrics are a call to action, urging the listener to recognize the worth of every individual and to treat others with kindness and empathy. The concept of "indoor voices" can also be seen as a metaphor for the quiet, personal moments of connection between individuals that can have a lasting impact.
