SUMMER
Transit Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sounds of laughter
Cut across the lake
Over campfire lights
Through summers in Maine
The low hum of an old busted radio
Singing songs that we knew
Back till you begin
To match the beating of your heart
With the ringing in your ears
Over and again
Back till you begin
To match the beating of your heart
With the ringing in your ears
Come on and waste away with me
Up with the rhythm
Down with the beat
Growing older, oh oh
We're getting older, oh oh
Waiting for the sound of a lock to turn
Moving like a ghost in-between the walls
Take me to the very edge of your pain
Tap me like a stone outside your window
I'll be visiting you in flashbacks
I'll be visiting you in dreams
With our legs on the edge of summer
The moon spotlighting in the water
Come on and waste away with me
Up with the rhythm
Down with the beat
Growing older, oh oh
We're getting older, oh oh
Cause these are the nights
That fill my heart
And these are the times
I'll keep and carry
Older, oh oh
We're getting older, oh oh
Up with the rhythm
Down with the beat
Up with the rhythm
Down with the beat
I hear that radio
Singing songs that we knew
The ones my mother fell in love to
Play it over and again
Back till you begin
To match the beating of your heart
With the ringing in your ears
Over and again
Back till you begin
To match the beating of your heart
With the ringing in your ears
Come on and waste away with me
Up with the rhythm
Down with the beat
Growing older, oh oh
We're getting older, oh oh
Cause these are the nights
That fill my heart
And these are the times
I'll keep and I'll carry
Older, oh oh
We're getting older, oh oh
The lyrics of Transit's song Summer ME are a nostalgic reminiscence of the carefree and blissful summers spent in Maine. The lyrics are a lush ode to the sounds and sights of summer, as the singer hears the sounds of laughter "cut across the lake" and the "low hum of an old busted radio," from which songs that they knew were sung. The lyrics speak about the power of music in transporting one to the height of joy and ease that only summer can bring. The lyrics describe how music can fill one's heart, matching the beating of one's heart to the ringing in one's ears.
The song speaks about the fleeting nature of time and how summer only lasts for a while, akin to how the singer is getting older, and life is moving on in the lyrics, taking them to the edge of their pain. The song's chorus, "Come on and waste away with me, up with the rhythm, down with the beat, growing older, oh oh, we're getting older, oh oh," reinforces this idea. The lyrics speak about holding onto the memories of these summers in Maine, even as they grow older, making these memories a part of themselves.
The song speaks of empathy for a loved one and the idea of visiting someone in their flashbacks and dreams. The lyrics are a plea for togetherness and intimacy, the kind that lingers for a long time, like the memories of summer. Overall, the lyrics of Transit's song Summer ME are a soulful and poignant ode to the nostalgia of one's past summers spent in Maine and an invitation to the listener to take a trip down memory lane.
