Together with Dave Parsons and Anthony Doughty (AKA Tex Axile) made up the the band's four permanent members. Additional members Pol Burton, James Piper and Martin Hallett were musicians engaged to play during live concerts: Burton, then later Hallett (AKA Mallet), on drums, and Piper on guitar.
The band was signed by MCA and released a cover single of the Holly and the Italians song "Tell That Girl To Shut Up" in April 1988 . A month later the follow-up single "I Want Your Love", with its pop/punk crossover appeal, entered the Top 5 in the United Kingdom. The band went on to release the hit album Pop Art in October.
1989 was the band's most successful year, with the number 3 hit single "Baby I Don't Care" and hit album Velveteen.
In 1990 MCA refused to release Transvision Vamp's third album Little Magnets Versus The Bubble Of Babble in the UK, reportedly disliking the mellower direction of the music. Wendy James has stated "...it came out in America and did better than the other two albums in America. But then we decided to split up, during which time the English record label had said they weren't convinced about this record, we're going to hold off on it and see how well it does in other countries first. By the time they were ready to release it, we'd already decided to split up, and so it never came out". The band formally split early in 1991. Tex Axile left to Join Max with John Reynolds, Kevin Mooney and Mathew Ashman formerly of Sinead O'connor, Adam and the Ants and Bow Wow Wow. Dave Parsons Joined Gavin Rossdale and formed Bush.
James went on to a solo career and in 2004 formed the band Racine.

Sister Moon
Transvision Vamp Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hey Sister Moon, in your midnight blue
Hey Sister Moon, are you coming round soon?
Hey, hey and Sister Moon, oh I've been missing you
Now if you take my heart you can take my hand
And I will be with you up in the big land
And groove on Sister, groove on Sister Moon
Now Sister d'you remember all of those days?
All those crazy nights seem lost in a haze
But every new moment that's a brand new start
When you got the nature down deep in your heart
And as the mountains move on the winds of change
There's no fear of the end, when you've got the world
Running in your veins
So groove on Sister, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on my baby, grove on, groove on Sister Moon
Now you got the skies and you got the stars
And you got the power to break a young heart
Yeah you got the power and you got the life
And you the love to make it alright
Hey Sister Moon are coming round soon?
Hey, hey and Sister Moon, in your midnight blue
So groove on Sister, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on, my baby, grove on, groove on Sister Moon
Now you can take my heart and you can take my hand
And I won't feel blue when you got the stars
Shining down on you
And groove on Sister, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on my baby, grove on, groove on Sister Moon
Groove on Sister Moon, groove on Sister Moon
The song "Sister Moon" by Transvision Vamp seems to be an ode to the moon and its power to inspire and rejuvenate us. The opening lines are a direct address to the moon, asking if it will soon make an appearance. The use of the word 'soon' suggests longing and impatience, possibly indicating that the singer has been waiting for the moon's arrival for a while. The next few lines describe the moon's beauty and color, suggesting that it's a subject that the singer has a great deal of affection for. The chorus repeats the words 'groove on Sister Moon,' emphasizing the sense of joy and movement that the moon's presence can inspire.
The second verse is a reminiscence of days past, which the singer associates with the moon. It's possible that the moon is being used as a metaphor here for the light in our lives that helps us remember the good times. The next few lines suggest the idea that every new moment is a new start, with the singer urging that we should embrace change and not fear the unknown. The final lines of the song restate the great power that the moon holds, as a symbol of love, life, and hope.
