Trash City video dreams, twenty-first century
Hey boys, I'm a Planet Queen
Of the twenty-first Century
Trash City here I come, Sony Eight for a laser gun
I got my finger on the trigger, gonna do a shoot and run
I'll see you honey when the shooting's done
We gotta aim to stun so grab your guns
And let's go
Trash City, T, Trash, Trash City
Trash City, T, Trash, Trash City
Trash City, watch out here I come

We gotta aim to stun so grab your guns
And let's go

Trash City watch out here I come
The lyrics to "Trash City" by Transvision Vamp describe a world where old and new, past and present, collide. The song takes the listener on a journey from the countercultural vibe of the late '60s and early '70s (represented by Easy Rider and Che Guevara) to the high-tech, hyper-stimulated world of the '80s and '90s (represented by Pac-Man and MTV). The singer declares herself to be the "Planet Queen" of the twenty-first century, a time where video dreams reign supreme and success is measured by fame and credibility. The chorus repeats the phrase "Trash City," a term that seems to encompass both the excitement and chaos of contemporary society.
The lyrics express a certain kind of restlessness, a feeling that anything can happen in this world where the only constant is change. The lines "We gotta aim to stun so grab your guns / And let's go" imply that the singer is ready to take on whatever comes her way, to shoot first and ask questions later. However, the song also suggests that this constant striving for more, for better, for the "next big thing" can lead to a kind of emptiness. The final lines of the song, "Pop-Pop, Rock-Rock, Shoot-Shoot, Swoop-Swoop / Transmission, T, Trans, Transmission number one / Number one video star," hint at a feeling of being trapped in a cycle of repetition and consumption.
