Venus In Furs
Trash Palace Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girlchild in the dark
Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Downy sins of streetlight fancies
Chase the costumes she shall wear
Ermine furs adorn the imperious
Severin, Severin awaits you there

I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams that would awake me
Different colors made of tears

Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather
Shiny leather in the dark
Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather in the dark

Overall Meaning

The above lyrics are from the song Venus In Furs by Trash Palace. The song is about a man named Severin who desires to be dominated by a woman named Venus. As the song begins, we are introduced to an almost fetishistic view of leather boots – "shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather", which sets the erotic tone of the song. The second line – "Whiplash girlchild in the dark" is a reference to Venus, who is depicted as a young, slender woman with a whip (symbolic of her power to dominate Severin).

In the next few lines, the song suggests that Venus is Severin's servant or mistress, and that he desires her to "strike" him with a whip, in order to heal his heart. The line "Downy sins of streetlight fancies" suggests that Severin is drawn to the seedy underbelly of society, and is perhaps intrigued by the idea of being dominated by a woman.

The last stanza of the song features Severin expressing his fatigue and desire to sleep for a thousand years. The line "Different colors made of tears" could be interpreted as Severin desiring an escape from his pain and longing for something new, represented metaphorically by "different colors".

Line by Line Meaning

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
The song begins by describing the shiny boots of a leather material as if they are the symbol of something mysterious or alluring.

Whiplash girlchild in the dark
This line suggests that the leather boots mentioned earlier belong to a young, rebellious girl who likes to dress in Gothic fashion and defy expectations of how a girl should behave.

Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him
The girl mentioned earlier is portrayed as a servant that can be called upon by her master at any moment. The bells in her costume serve as a signal to announce her presence.

Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart
This line implies that the girl is submissive and takes pleasure in being punished by her mistress. In turn, it is suggested that the pain she experiences is a cure for a broken heart or a way of dealing with emotional distress.

Downy sins of streetlight fancies
This line portrays the girl's fantasies as soft and gentle like the texture of a feather, but at the same time, it suggests that her fantasies derive from the suggestive ambiance of streetlights.

Chase the costumes she shall wear
This line implies that the girl is always changing her appearance and that the costumes she wears reflect her mood or state of mind at the time.

Ermine furs adorn the imperious
This line describes the luxurious fur that adorns the girl's costume as a symbol of opulence and power. The word 'imperious' suggests that she is strong-willed and confident in her personality.

I am tired, I am weary
This line suggests that the artist is exhausted and disillusioned with life, perhaps due to social conventions that prevent people from exploring their true desires.

I could sleep for a thousand years
This line proposes that sleep is the only escape from reality and the problems that come with it. The imagery of 'a thousand years' suggests a sense of timelessness and infinity.

A thousand dreams that would awake me
This line implies that the singer's dreams are more real than life itself and that they have the power to awaken the imagination in a way that reality cannot.

Different colors made of tears
This line suggests that the artist's emotions are like a prism of colors and that tears are the medium through which they are expressed.

Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather
This line reiterates the submissive nature of the male character and his willingness to accept pain while also finding pleasure in it.

Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you
This line refers to the male character's desire for bondage, particularly being tied up with a belt or other restraints to restrict his movement.

Wow, It's amazing!

I'm sure Sacher-Masoch would have been pleased about this audio representation of his baroness, even though it was seven score ago; as it would have made up for the displeasure that he felt at the bequeathal of the appellation created in his behalf.

kaetamine

delicious. truly.
