Nettlebirds
Traverser Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's a sound that pulls you through
The more you nest in my regret
The more I slip away
Move
Have you no purpose?
I guessed your colors this time
This black and white has bleed all over
So
Another realm I've been before
I sat at the bottom
Soon
When the cage has swallowed you
The more you push my arms away
The more I follow through
Soon
I'll give you purpose
But you won't remember this time
Your tired flight is almost over
And still your heart believes
You should have lied to me
Now my blood has run
Knew this day would come
Leave me to my own devices
I'll rot
The lyrics of Traverser's song "Nettlebirds" seem to convey a story of a relationship in which one person is slowly slipping away from the other. The singer is requesting the other person to move or take action, as they are being consumed by regret. The more they cling onto these feelings of regret, the more the other person slips away. The singer mentions that they have guessed the other person's colors, or their innermost feelings, but they seem to have lost their true purpose. The black and white imagery used in the lyrics has bled together, illustrating the confusion and lack of clarity in the situation.
The second verse appears to be describing a different reality, perhaps a dream world or another realm. The singer has been to this place before and sat at the bottom, which could represent a feeling of defeat or despair. They mention that when the cage swallows the other person, they push them away even more, yet the singer continues to follow through. They promise to give the other person purpose, but they won't remember it next time, and their tired flight is almost over. This could mean that the relationship is coming to an end, and the other person is moving on.
The last two lines seem to suggest that the singer is resigned to being left alone, left to their own devices as they rot away. The whole song has a contemplative, almost mournful tone, which is enhanced by the slow, haunting melody.
