Coming Around
Travis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Never see you coming around
They know they got their heads screwed on
I'm standing in the middle of town
I know I might never come home
Just standing where I am with all the people passing by me
The sound of all these passers-by mixed in with the bus and motor-car
I must be sure these are the signs
Cause I've been here a million times before

Just tell me when it's coming around, coming around
I think I see you coming to town, hunting you down
Bringing you round

Tell me if I'm bringing you down
Cause I was fine till you came along
You tell me that the tears of a clown cloud
That I'm confusing while abusing my mind
So far away I wanna be
That's not as close to you and me
The things they call our destiny
Now why do you have to pick on me at all?
My walls are coming down

Just tell me when it's coming around, coming around

I think I see you coming to town, hunting you down
Coming around

Overall Meaning

Travis's song "Coming Around" is about the singer's mixed feelings towards a person who has entered their life unexpectedly. The opening lines suggest that this person has been absent for a while, but their return is causing confusion and conflicting emotions. The singer is in the middle of town, surrounded by people and the sounds of life, but they feel alone and unsure. The repetition of being in this situation "a million times before" suggests that this is a familiar feeling for the singer - perhaps they have been hurt before, or have had trouble dealing with complex emotions in the past.

The chorus is a plea for clarity and guidance. The singer wants to know if this person will be a positive or negative force in their life. They are searching for a sign, or some indication that will help them make sense of their emotions. The line "I think I see you coming to town, hunting you down" suggests that the singer is actively seeking out this person, despite their confusion and doubts.

In the second verse, the singer expresses their fears and insecurities. They worry that this person will "bring them down" and disrupt the stability they had before. The "tears of a clown" metaphor suggests that the singer is hiding their true feelings and putting on a brave face, but this person sees through their facade. The singer is aware that this person is affecting their mental state in a negative way, but they feel trapped and unable to escape their influence.

Overall, "Coming Around" is a complex and relatable song about the confusion and anxiety that comes with new relationships or unexpected encounters. The singer is searching for clarity and understanding, but is unsure if they will find it.

This shows the fragility of relationships with people different to each other. The problems we encounter if we dare to do something well or simply look different, rejection by peers and strangers. Also sometimes we don't recognise when someone love's us, because we cannot see beyond ourselves & see others qualities & do not believe. As long as you do your best in life & have faith in what you do; little else matters.

Nah it shows how eggs can be fragile sometimes
