Flower's In The Window
Travis Lyrics

When I first held you I was cold
A melting snowman I was told
But there was no-one there to hold before
I swore that I would be alone for ever more
Wow look at you now
Flowers in the window
It's such a lovely day
And I'm glad you feel the same
Cause to stand up, out in the crowd
You are one in a million
And I love you so
Lets watch the flowers grow

There is no reason to feel bad
But there are many seasons to feel glad, sad, mad
It's just a bunch of feelings that we have to hold
But I am here to help you with the load

Wow look at you now
Flowers in the window
It's such a lovely day
And I'm glad you feel the same
Cause to stand up, out in the crowd
You are one in a million
And I love you so
Lets watch the flowers grow

So now we're here and now is fine
So far away from there and there is time, time, time
To plant new seeds and watch them grow
So there'll be flowers in the window when we go

Wow look at us now
Flowers in the window
It's such a lovely day
And I'm glad you feel the same
Cause to stand up, out in the crowd
You are one in a million,
And I love you so
Lets watch the flowers grow
Wow look at you now
Flowers in the window
Its such a lovely day
And I'm glad you feel the same
Cause to stand up, out in the crowd
You are one in a million
And I love you so

Let's watch the flowers grow
Let's watch the flowers grow

Overall Meaning

The song "Flowers in the Window" by Travis is a beautiful love song that tells the story of a person who once felt cold and alone but found love and happiness in the company of someone special. The first verse paints a picture of the singer's lonely past, where he was "swore that [he] would be alone forevermore." However, the chorus underscores the transformation that has occurred in his life, represented by the flowers in the window, and expresses gratitude that he and his lover feel the same.

The second verse is a reminder that one cannot feel happy all the time because life is full of ups and downs. Together, the two partners can handle the different emotions they experience. The singer promises to help his lover carry the burden of her unpleasant feelings. By adding piano arpeggios to the song's hook, "wow look at you now." creates an intimate musical ambiance that removes the feeling of vulnerability from the power of love.

The final verse is all about embracing the present and being open to new beginnings. The phrase "plant new seeds and watch them grow" is a powerful metaphor for their lives' possibilities. They are ready to explore new adventures, make mistakes and follow their hearts. The chorus is repeated twice in the closing, creating a crescendo of emotion that is both uplifting and empowering.

10 years ago,my now husband played this song for me, we were expecting our first baby, that sadly died shortly after birth. I have not listened to it since until this year. We have now three more little flowers & they are growing just perfectly.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your first wee flower. I love this song too. My own son died at 3mo in 2020, I still can't listen to the songs from that time incl. The First Day Of My Life xox

After a time of disappointment and struggle, I bought my own home in June 2002. It was hot and sunny on the day I moved in and the first thing I did was fill the window boxes with flowers when this song came on the radio. The weight of the world lifted from my shoulders and I felt a huge amount of relief and happiness. Thanks Travis.

You had difficult times with a wom. too?

@top6utd569

A week after my dad had passed away, I was lying down listening to music. The sun was absolutely shining through the white see through curtains, it was quite something. For a reason unknown to me at the time, this song came in to my head. So I played it and half way through the song, just when the part 'flowers in the window' played.... I looked to my left and realised there were these beautiful white flowers that my mum had put up just after dad had passed....in the window.

It was the first time I had cried properly since I was a kid. Now I never listen to this song the same way as ever before. Love you beyond words Dad.
