Don't Say You're Sorry

When I've something to say to you
But crippling emotions stand in our way
You played it off like you didn't want to
When I went along cause I thought I had to
End up back around cause we feel the same ole way
And why does part of me feel like I still want you
It's just a physical thing when I need you
I ain't expecting anything knowing we won't change
So don't say you're sorry
It's just better if we go off our own way
I'm still your friend but let's go off our own way
Do our own thang
But don't say you're sorry
It doesn't mean that we've got to be lonely
Let's see it through til we've gotten a hold and
We feel whole again
Stop watch keeps ticking around
It won't stop to figure us out - can't rewind
Already been done, time to make a change
You couldn't put the blame on me if you had to
I could've forced it on you but I didn't want to
What's the point when all it does is give us more
The same
And why do all of a sudden do I need you
I just wanted to have something to belong to
It doesn't make it any better when we cry the same
When there's always tomorrow
When you wake up and you realize that
You're just a step away from finding something
You'll be good again (it's what the dreams made of)
So don't say you're sorry
It's just better if we go off our own way
I'm still your friend but let's go off our own way
Do our own thang
This is another part of me
Could've spared us the pain had you have known
A part of me now I've come to see
Can't figure it out why I didn't know
La da da, la da da da da dee dah
In the song "Don't Say You're Sorry" by Tre Main, the lyrics express a complex mix of emotions and inner turmoil within a relationship. The singer opens by stating their reluctance for small talk, indicating a desire for genuine communication. However, they acknowledge the barriers of "crippling emotions" that prevent them from expressing themselves freely to the other person.
The lyrics continue to delve into the dynamics of the relationship, where both parties seem hesitant but ultimately end up in familiar patterns, hinting at unresolved feelings and a sense of longing. Despite recognizing that the connection may be primarily physical and acknowledging the futility of expecting change, there is still a lingering sense of attachment and uncertainty.
The chorus serves as a bittersweet plea for understanding and acceptance, urging the other person not to apologize and suggesting that it may be better for both individuals to part ways. The singer expresses a desire to maintain a friendship but emphasizes the importance of pursuing their own paths and finding fulfillment independently.
As the song progresses, there is a reflection on missed opportunities and the inevitability of change. The lyrics touch on the inability to turn back time and the need to move forward, even if it means experiencing pain and confusion. The singer contemplates the reasons behind their feelings and actions, grappling with the complexity of emotions that seem contradictory yet undeniable.
In the final verses, there is a sense of resignation and hope intertwined as the singer encourages resilience and self-discovery. The idea of realizing one's worth, letting go of past grievances, and embracing the unknown future is highlighted. The song concludes with a whimsical refrain, perhaps serving as a reminder of the cyclic nature of emotions and the continuous journey towards self-realization and healing.
