1) Trees were an English folk rock band that existed between 1969 and 1972. Although they met with little commercial success in their time, the reputation of the band has grown over the years. Like other similar bands at the time, their music were influenced by Fairport Convention, though with a heavier and more psychedelic edge. The group's material was divided between adaptions of traditional songs and original compositions.
They produced 2 albums; The Garden of Jane Delawney in 1969 and On the Shore in 1970.
2) False group name for San Diego singer/songwriter/synthesist Dane Conover, who released a new wave/synth-rock album entitled Sleep Convention for MCA under the Trees moniker in 1982. Received some renown via the singles "Come Back" and "Shock Of The New," whose low-budget videos received some airplay on the nascent MTV.
3) Trees are a noir dreampop, shoegaze band from Naples, Italy. Trees formed in 1993 and one year later released a now-difficult-to-find Trees demo tape. In 1997, Trees signed on to a two-album deal with Italian label Energeia. Their debut self-titled album was released in 1997, and Harmonizer followed two years later (released in America by Losing Today). National touring followed their album releases. Eventually Trees went missing for much of the new millennium, but reappeared in 2007 for their 10th Anniversary box set, released by Ark Records, titled Walking Trees. This new 3-disc collection included reissues of their first two albums and a third new album titled Ash. Following their newest release, Trees went into hiding again, with little to no live shows planned. It is unsure what their true status is post-Ash. http://trees-band.blogspot.com/
4) Trees is a five-piece band based out of Nashville, which released an album titled Back to Roots in 2006.
5) Trees is a drone/doom metal band from Portland, Oregon. They released their debut, Light's Bane, on 20 Buck Spin (LP) and Crucial Blast (CD). Freed of This Flesh was released in 2010, and Sickness In followed in 2012.
6) Trees is an instrumental doom/sludge metal trio from Denver, Colorado, featuring Justin Hackl (Only Thunder), Matt Clark (TaunTaun), and Daniel McCarthy. Their debut album, When The Three Beggars Arrive, was released in mid-2011.

Sally Free and Easy
Trees Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That should be her name,
Sally, free and easy,
That should be her name,
Took a sailor's loving,
For a nursery game.
Though the heart she gave me,
It was sweet and hollow,
Like a honey comb,
Think I'll wait till sunset,
See the ensign down, [Repeat: x2]
Then I'll take the tideway,
To my burying ground,
Sally, free and easy,
That should be her name, [Repeat: x2]
When my body's landed,
Hope she dies of shame.
The song Sally Free And Easy by the British folk group Trees is about a woman, Sally, who is described as being carefree and untroubled. The first two lines of the song imply that Sally's name should have been "free and easy" because it so perfectly captures her spirit. The next line references the fact that Sally took a sailor's love as if it were a game, a mere nursery game at that. This hints at the fact that Sally has a tendency to take relationships lightly and not take them seriously.
The lyrics then describe the nature of Sally's heart, saying that while it wasn't made of stone, it was sweet and hollow, like a honeycomb. This implies that while Sally may be sweet on the surface, there is not much depth to her, and her heart is not capable of love.
The final stanza reveals the singer's plan to wait until sunset and then take the "tideway" to their "burying ground." This suggests a suicidal intention, possibly due to heartbreak caused by Sally. The final lines reveal that the singer hopes Sally will feel shame when his body is discovered, implying that Sally was the cause of his heartache.
Overall, the song paints a vivid picture of a woman who is carefree and uncommitted to relationships, causing heartache in those who fall in love with her.

I discovered this band in about 2014, strangely after watching the original Wicker Man and going down the google rabbit hole and reading a recommendation on some prog folk message board. Im so glad i did. On the Shore has given me more listening pleasure than any other album since then.
Absolutely amazing vocals, slightly sinister, trippy guitars and electric psychedelic insturmnetal outros, great drumming, complex time signatures. Its an album i come back to time and again without ever getting bored.

This made me yearn for things that I was 50 years too late for. It made me feel humble, wanted, ecstatic and yet left out in the cold rain. I can taste English summer rain, and hear it splashing against my bedroom windows in the dead of night when I listen to this. An utterly beautiful song. I feel robbed that I've spent so long not knowing of it

Some of us were there at the time but didn't appreciate them properly (holds up hand shamefacedly)
