Maravilha de filme e de trilha sonora! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

@SoundtrackFred

Both, movie and the original novel of “The Last Of The Mohicans” by James Fenimore Cooper are widely known. The story about friendship, revenge, love and death between (native) Americans, features great cinematography, fine direction by Michael Mann and a splendid cast, led by Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, Russell Means, Eric Schweig and Wes Studi.
The musical score is some interesting story itself, having been composed by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman.
While at first Jones was hired to score the movie, his and director Mann’s opinions differed here and there, so it was decided to bring in Randy Edelman to fill (and probably rescore) some smaller portions of the movie.
And while both their music got released on the soundtrack album at the time, there was of course more music to discover, which was gladly put out as an isolated (complete) score track of the movie’s DVD, which serves as source for what you are hearing now. Enjoy!

One of the best scores ever written imho.

I cry every time I hear it. It reminds me so much of John Barry, whose sweeping emotive strings also bring me to tears.

--- I would pay good money to see this performed live. If anyone knows of anyone putting on a show in Europe, please let me know by replying. Also if you've seen this performed live, let me know where!

Grazie Fred❤👍🏻
Great Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman👏🏻👏🏻
The only time I saw this film was many years ago, on the bus television screens, during a school trip. I haven't seen it better yet!
Yet another version of the classic novel by James Fenimore Cooper, directed with passionate and bombastic style, with a superman Daniel Day-Lewis and a beautiful Madeleine Stowe.💖😍
The main theme of the film is largely based on the melody of the song “The Gael”, composed by the Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean and taken from his 1990 album “The Search”. The music of the song became incredibly famous and has since been often used in advertising or in some journalistic reports. Michael Mann says that the credit for this choice went to his wife: he intended to use Celtic music as the basis, and while he was looking for it from various sources she directed him towards "The Gael" because she had heard it on the radio, and the director took it fell in love immediately.
The film was received with almost universal acclaim from critics and achieved universal success at the box office. In particular, the film was praised for its music and cinematography.

Hello, Fred! Music is only a mathematical question for those who write it; the audience is led to emotion through the melody which, if well orchestrated, is capable of taking them away. In " The Last Of Mohicans " a reassembly led former Carpenters, ABBA and Olivia Newton - John arranger Randy Edelman to write almost 30 minutes of music because he was unable to rework the almost 50 minutes originally written by South African Trevor Jones. On the album, obviously, the songs are lined up: 01 to 09, Jones; 10 to 15, Edelman. But Jones ( who dreamed of composing for cinema since he was a child and was a fan of Miklos Rozsa ) created a dominant melodic line so incredibly charismatic ( orchestrated by 8 hands ) that Edelman ( who exchanged Medicine for Music ) even with the magic hands of Greig MacRitchie ( Poledouris orchestrator from " Conan, The Barbarian ", 1982 ) disappears, fades away!! So, if you loved this suite, give your Oscar to Trevor Jones. After all, a dream makes all the difference!... Thanks and bye!!

Epic

@mikesmovingimages

Yeah, not sure what to make of this picture. Michael Mann is a frustrating director. I love what he attempts, and want to like his movies, they contain many fabulous elements. Thief, Manhunter and Last of the Mohicans stand out. But...each one leaves me wanting. He is good enough at his craft that the shortcomings are quite jarring. I would compare this picture with Dr. Zhivago, where D Lean tried to make a character out of the Russian Revolution (much as he did more successfully with the desert in Lawrence of Arabia) and left the human characters behind. In Mohican, it is the forest, its noble savagery parallels the senseless savagery of war(s) in which the characters find themselves swept up - and lost. DD Lewis's acting stands out in part because Mann cannot integrate the portrayal into a whole that is equal to it (compare to There Will Be Blood, epic and intimate in equal measure). The reach for the epic ruined the more intimate and compelling relationship stories. The characters had arcs but little depth. The "epic" music emphasizes the wrong thing, which conventionalizes everything further, much a M Jarre's score did in Zhivago. No doubt the music works for the purpose Mann seems to have been aiming for, but it enhances the weaknesses of the picture. No fault of the composer! So good music or no? Good because it fits the director's approach. But it unfortunately it enhances the weakness of that approach. For those who revel in the epic, however, the music is perfect. You pick your poison.
