Do It Again
Trevor Something Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I found your love
In a crowded club
I was high and drunk
Don't remember much
It's OK
'Cause I woke up next to you
And we became more than friends
And if I could I would

Yeah, I would do it again
Yeah, I would do it again
So can we do it again?

Do I have to ask?
Can't a good thing last?
Did we move too fast?
I can't live in the past anymore
'Cause I thought we had something
But then it came to an end
And if I could I would

Yeah, I would do it again
Yeah, I would do it again
So can we do it again?

Yeah, I know we just don't work
But maybe we could be friends?
And if I could I would

Yeah, I would do it again

Yeah, I would do it again
So can we do it again?

Overall Meaning

The song "Do It Again" by Trevor Something is a reflection on a past relationship that started unexpectedly in a crowded club. The singer was high and drunk and doesn't remember much about that night, but woke up next to the love interest and they became more than friends. The singer acknowledges that they may have moved too fast, but wishes they could relive those moments again. The chorus repeats the phrase "Yeah, I would do it again" which emphasizes the singer's desire to go back to that moment in time and do it all over again.

The extended metaphor of the club is used to represent the frenzied, fleeting nature of the relationship, which started out fast and ended just as quickly. The singer longs to recapture the excitement and passion of that first encounter, but also acknowledges that perhaps they just don't work as a couple. The line "Can't a good thing last?" highlights the bittersweet realization that sometimes love is fleeting, and no matter how much we want to hang on to it, it slips away.

Overall, "Do It Again" is a nostalgic reflection on a relationship that ended too soon. It captures the manic energy of falling in love and the disappointment when it doesn't work out. Despite this, the singer still holds on to the hope that they could relive those moments again and maybe even be friends.

@M. Amanuensis Sharkchild Why can't they dream of the 80s? And if it emulates from the 80s and gives 80s vibes, they put up 80s images, why wouldn't anyone think of the 80s? The 80s still did it better. Stop being a karen and leave these kids to dream and enjoy.

@jostube06 There is no doubt about the influence; that isn't my argument. Alternative rock began in the '70s, but when it went huge in the '90s, no one said it was '70s music. All music is derived and inspired from decades past, but all new music is new music (music of the present). This new retrowave/synthwave scene is '80s inspired music, but not '80s music; it is '10s and '20s music.

@M. Amanuensis Sharkchild it's definitely heavily influenced by the 80s. Can't ignore it. It's from today's era but the 80s music was soooo damn cool that even today the synthwave movement is bringing it back with a modern twist. The style is totally 80s. Synthwave = 80s Part II.
