Songz was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson on November 28, 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia. Raised a military brat, he recognized his vocal abilities at the age of 14. Reluctant to sing, he began performing with encouragement by friends and family. Record producer Troy Taylor discovered Songz during a talent show, which led him to a record contract with Atlantic Records. After graduating from high school, Songz moved to New Jersey to begin his music career.
2004–2006: I Gotta Make It
While recording his debut album, Songz released mixtapes under the alias Prince of Virginia. He made an “answer track” to R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet”, entitled “Open the Closet”.His debut album, I Gotta Make It was released in July 2005 by Atlantic Records. It debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200, domestically selling over 10,000 copies in its first week of sales. Songz’s debut album yielded the singles Gotta Make It, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 87, and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts at numbber 21, becoming his first Top 40 R&B hit. Another single, Gotta Go, peaked at number 67 on the Hot 100 and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, at number 99.
2007–2008: Trey Day
Songz released his second studio album, Trey Day, in October 2007. The album again had only featured guest appearances by Bun B, who appeared on the opening track, and Jim Jones. Production on Songz’s second album had included, Bryan-Michael Cox, R. Kelly, James Harris, Terry Lewis, Andrew Harr, Bernard Freeman, Floyd Hills, alongside Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin, Justin Haro, and M.S. Eriksen. The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200, selling more units than his previous album, I Gotta Make It. The lead single, “Wonder Woman”, peaked at number 54 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
The second single, “Can’t Help but Wait”, peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number two on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart; it became Songz’s highest charting debut on the Hot 100, and his first-charting R&B single on the R&B charts.[citation needed] “Can’t Help But Wait” charted at number 74 on the Billboard Pop 100 in February 2008. The third single off of “Trey Day”, “Last Time”, peaked on number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number nine on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. In 2008, Songz was nominated for a BET Award for Best Male R&B Artist.
2009–present: Ready
In 2009, “Can’t Help but Wait” earned Songz a nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony. He announced the upcoming release of his third album, Ready, scheduled to be released in September 2009. Ready is preceded by the first single, “I Need a Girl”. Furthermore, a companion video to “Brand New”, was released in March 2009. Possible collaborators on Ready include Fabolous, Ne-Yo, Nelly, J. Holiday, Drake, Chris Brown, The Game, amongst others. Production is set to come from the likes of Stargate, Jermaine Dupri and Jim Jonsin.
Prior to the release of Ready, Songz released a mixtape titled Anticipation in June 2009 through his blog. This mixtape is the second mixtape released by Trey Songz in 2009, with the first being titled Genesis. Genesis was a collection of Trey Songz first recordings when he was fifteen years old and was released to show his fans the dedication that he had to making a record when he was young.

For me to feel the same is all you wanna gain
You never claim that the dollars made me change
But the models givin' brain
Guess that could fuck with your brain
Hurt your heart in the worst way
Never should have let you fall in the first place
Now you're so high off love you don't wanna get down
Most nights she ain't sleep
Worried where I might or I might not be
Shesh! for the life for me
Man what a life I lead
(Chorus)
You kept me on this pedestal
No matter how much I let you down
(down x3) I let you down (down x3)
With all my infidelity
You loved me so incredibly
Inside I'll fall apart
If you ever love someone instead of me
(instead of me )
So you deserve a better man
(instead of me, instead of me)
Clock won't stop (tick, tock)
Her love is going, going, going
- by the minute
Going, going, going
- she keep giving
But I know she can't take it
Still her heart I keep breaking
So Ima let her love go
Cause I don't deserve her love no more
Sad story
She mad for me
And mad at me
Sad that we
Can't exude love
Not a true love
Cause it's all screwed up
(Chorus)
You kept me on this pedestal
No matter how much I let you down
(down x3) I let you down (down x3)
With all my infidelity
You loved me so incredibly
Inside I'll fall apart
If you ever love someone instead of me
(Rap)
How do you fix a love undone
How you even know if you're fit to love someone
And when you decide to take that ride
Can you drive from the passengers side
One wheel in the middle
Four hands on it
Two sets of breaks
You decide to slam on it
God damn woman
Where the love go
Whip crash will you get whiplash
Sit back cause you won't get shit back
But think if you tried to get what you jus had back
She mad at facts
And you can't be mad at that
(You can't be mad at that)x2
Whoa x5
(Clock won't stop - tick, tock)x2
You kept me on this pedestal
No matter how much
I let you down
I let you down
The song "Infidelity" by Trey Songz is a emotional ballad about the pain and guilt felt by a man who has been unfaithful to his partner. The lyrics express the man's deep love and appreciation for his partner, who, despite his infidelity, has continued to love and support him, keeping him on a pedestal. He knows that he has hurt her deeply and does not deserve her love, yet he cannot let go of her.
The first verse of the song starts with the man acknowledging the love his partner has for him and how much he appreciates it. He then admits that he has not been faithful, and despite her not accusing him of changing because of the money, the fact that models are after him could potentially mess with her head. The second verse is him coming to terms with how much he has hurt her, but it is too late to take things back. He knows that he does not deserve her love, but the thought of losing her is unbearable.
The chorus repeats the theme of his partner's unconditional love for him, despite his infidelity. In the rap verse, he questions why he was not enough for her, and he is not sure if he is even capable of loving someone. The clock ticking in the background represents how time is running out for him to make things right. The song ends with him repeating the chorus, acknowledging that he has let her down.

No matter how much I let you down
Even when I disappointed you
With all my infidelity
With all my cheating
You loved me so incredibly

I will crumble inside
If you ever love someone instead of me
If you leave me for someone else

Where the love go
Where has our love gone
Whip crash will you get whiplash

But think if you tried to get what you jus had back
Consider if we should try to salvage our relationship

You are upset with the truth
And you can't be mad at that
You can't be upset with the truth
