Songz was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson on November 28, 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia. Raised a military brat, he recognized his vocal abilities at the age of 14. Reluctant to sing, he began performing with encouragement by friends and family. Record producer Troy Taylor discovered Songz during a talent show, which led him to a record contract with Atlantic Records. After graduating from high school, Songz moved to New Jersey to begin his music career.
2004–2006: I Gotta Make It
While recording his debut album, Songz released mixtapes under the alias Prince of Virginia. He made an “answer track” to R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet”, entitled “Open the Closet”.His debut album, I Gotta Make It was released in July 2005 by Atlantic Records. It debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200, domestically selling over 10,000 copies in its first week of sales. Songz’s debut album yielded the singles Gotta Make It, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 87, and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts at numbber 21, becoming his first Top 40 R&B hit. Another single, Gotta Go, peaked at number 67 on the Hot 100 and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, at number 99.
2007–2008: Trey Day
Songz released his second studio album, Trey Day, in October 2007. The album again had only featured guest appearances by Bun B, who appeared on the opening track, and Jim Jones. Production on Songz’s second album had included, Bryan-Michael Cox, R. Kelly, James Harris, Terry Lewis, Andrew Harr, Bernard Freeman, Floyd Hills, alongside Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin, Justin Haro, and M.S. Eriksen. The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200, selling more units than his previous album, I Gotta Make It. The lead single, “Wonder Woman”, peaked at number 54 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
The second single, “Can’t Help but Wait”, peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number two on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart; it became Songz’s highest charting debut on the Hot 100, and his first-charting R&B single on the R&B charts.[citation needed] “Can’t Help But Wait” charted at number 74 on the Billboard Pop 100 in February 2008. The third single off of “Trey Day”, “Last Time”, peaked on number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number nine on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. In 2008, Songz was nominated for a BET Award for Best Male R&B Artist.
2009–present: Ready
In 2009, “Can’t Help but Wait” earned Songz a nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony. He announced the upcoming release of his third album, Ready, scheduled to be released in September 2009. Ready is preceded by the first single, “I Need a Girl”. Furthermore, a companion video to “Brand New”, was released in March 2009. Possible collaborators on Ready include Fabolous, Ne-Yo, Nelly, J. Holiday, Drake, Chris Brown, The Game, amongst others. Production is set to come from the likes of Stargate, Jermaine Dupri and Jim Jonsin.
Prior to the release of Ready, Songz released a mixtape titled Anticipation in June 2009 through his blog. This mixtape is the second mixtape released by Trey Songz in 2009, with the first being titled Genesis. Genesis was a collection of Trey Songz first recordings when he was fifteen years old and was released to show his fans the dedication that he had to making a record when he was young.

You used to love me
Before I even was me
You used to hug me
Lick me, suck me, kiss me, fuck me
Kinda spent a lot of money on you
I invest in your dreams
Girl, you know what that means
(All mine, all mine, all mine
She says all mine, baby)
But somehow I knew she was a liar
She's a liar
Am I tripping? Am I bugging?
Is it over? Tell me something
You don't call me no more, who you fucking?
Tell me what it is, tell me what I did
Where you go? Are you coming home
Any time soon?
Any time soon?
Don't do this to me baby
Yes, no, maybe
(But I ain't really tripping if you ain't tryna come back
Fuck that, you can stay wherever you at)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
(I just wanna know, are you playing games with my heart?
Could've sworn that you swore, never change from the start)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
(I just wanna know, how you gon' try to help me?)
(Tell me where the fuck would you be without me?)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
Don't do this to me, baby
Don't do this to me, baby
(I just wanna know)
Yes, no, maybe
I've been selfish
I can't help it
Whole lotta years, whole lotta tears
Bullshit that you dealt with
But you let me
And you left me
I really think that I
Could've made you my girl some day
Oh, but how foolish am I
To think that you'd have to wait?
Like you never had shit, like you ain't a bad bitch
That could get her ass kissed from a nigga mad rich
But I'm missing that lift, rolling up a spliff
Got away your tongue twist
Getting lifted, tripping off dumb shit
You the only one that could make me come quick
You know I love you
I hope he fuck up too
Where you go?
Are you coming home any time soon?
Are you, any time soon?
Don't do this to me
Yes, no, maybe
Yes, no, maybe
(But I ain't really tripping if you ain't tryna come back
Fuck that, you can stay wherever you at)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
(I just wanna know, are you playing games with my heart?
Could've sworn that you swore, never change from the start)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
(I just wanna know, how you gon' try to help me?)
(Tell me where the fuck would you be without me?)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
Don't do this to me, baby
Don't do this to me, baby
(I just wanna know)
Yes, no, maybe
Seems like I can't have it
This could not be real
Got it off saying I was done
But when you're in love with someone
You can run it
Running back
I'm running
Running back
(But I ain't really tripping if you ain't tryna come back
Fuck that, you can stay wherever you at)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
(I just wanna know, are you playing games with my heart?
Could've sworn that you swore, never change from the start)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
(How you gon' try to help me?)
(Tell me where the fuck would you be without me?)
I'm sorry for talking crazy
Yes, no, maybe
Don't do this to me, baby
Don't do this to me, baby
Yes, no, maybe
The lyrics of this song "Yes No Maybe" by Trey Songz portray a relationship that seems to be falling apart, with one partner feeling unsure and the other trying to hold things together. In the first verse, Trey Songz talks about how his partner used to love him before he even became the person he is now. He invested in her dreams and never fronted on her, but he now feels like she's lying and keeping something from him. The second verse expresses his regret for being selfish and blind to her needs, resulting in her leaving him. He admits that he was foolish to think she'd wait for him to become ready.
The chorus of the song, "Yes, no, maybe" shows how the singer is uncertain about the future of his relationship with his partner. He questions whether she's playing games with his heart, and if that's the case, he can move on. Towards the end of the song, Trey Songz pleads with his partner not to leave him and asks if there's a chance of them getting back together.
This song portrays the confusion and uncertainty in a relationship, where one partner is unsure of their future together. It shows how love can be complicated and how it can tear people apart even when they're trying to hold on.
