SAY SOMETHING
Tribute To A Great Big World feat. Christina Aguilera Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all

And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl

Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye

Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere, I would have followed you, oh-oh
Say something, I'm giving up on you

Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Say Something" convey a sense of resignation, defeat, and heartbreak. The singer admits that they have reached a point of giving up on their loved one, acknowledging that they have done all they can to try and make things work in their relationship. They express regret for not being able to reach out to their partner, for not being able to make things right, but ultimately conclude that it's time to say goodbye. The repeated line "Say something" suggests that the singer is pleading with their partner to speak up, to give them a reason to keep trying, but it's clear that they have reached the end of their emotional tether. The song's intensity is heightened by the haunting and melancholic melody and Christina Aguilera's emotional vocals.

The lyrics have been interpreted in various ways, with some seeing them as a message of hopelessness and resignation, while others see them as a plea for communication and a last-ditch attempt to salvage a relationship. At its core, "Say Something" is a song about the pain of letting go, about the agony of realizing that no matter how hard you try, some things just won't work out.

I love when a live version of a song is as good as the recorded version.

I love when the melted cheese splills over just a little bit and burns when making a grilled cheese sandwich.

"And I would swallow my pride" Indeed she did. She didn't use her powerful voice to overshadow the lyrics but rather use it softly and gently to tell a story. The first time I heard this song I didn't recognize her voice. I was blown away when I realize she was singing on this track.

So very true! She didn’t upstage the other artist! Which would have been second nature, considering her strong beautiful voice!
