Fall of the Tyrant
Triphon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm damned if I'm forgotten
Don't walk into the light
They said I'd live forever
If I held my ground and finished the fight

My heart is heavy and
My sword is drenched
In my own blood

They won't go down
Their numbers are too great
My army falls to the ground
Perhaps it is too late

Staring at the sunset's dying glow

My days are done of ruling all
Here comes the fall

And I will stand
And I will wait here forever
Lonely is the last one to leave behind all
"Fall of the Tyrant" they call

I break the wall
This is all in sight
I break the wall
Slay in the dark of night

Put down your weapons and I swear
That I'll spill no more blood

I need to crush this revolt
Or my kingdom is doomed
I need to smash the faces
Of those who hear the truth

Men will die before their pride is gone

I don't want to die
Not like this

I'm not in a dream
This can't be real

Overall Meaning

The song "Fall of the Tyrant" by Triphon is about a tyrant who is facing the end of his reign. He is reflecting on his past decisions and realizes that his time has come to an end. The lyrics portray the pain and conflict that the tyrant feels as he is faced with the possibility of being forgotten after his death. The lines "I'm damned if I'm forgotten, Don't walk into the light, They said I'd live forever, If I held my ground and finished the fight" suggest that the tyrant is afraid of being forgotten and wants to be remembered for his heroic battle.

The tyrant's heart is heavy and his sword is drenched in his own blood, depicting the suffering he's been through as he loses his army to the rebels. He is watching his kingdom falling apart as the numbers of the rebels are too great for his army to withstand. As he watches the sunset, he knows it is the end of his rule. The tone of the lyrics becomes more resolute in the chorus, where the tyrant states he will stand and wait for the end, even though he is lonely in this fight - "And I will stand, and I will wait here forever, Lonely is the last one to leave behind all, Fall of the Tyrant they call."

The second half of the song is the tyrant's final plea, trying to stop the bloodshed and end the on-going conflict, but also admitting his need for power to keep his kingdom under control. The line "I need to crush this revolt or my kingdom is doomed, I need to smash the faces, Of those who hear the truth" convinces the listeners that the tyrant is not ready to give up his throne and is willing to eliminate any threat to his reign. The song ends with the refrain "I don't want to die, Not like this, I'm not in a dream, This can't be real" indicating that the tyrant is resigned to his fate and cannot believe it's ending this way.
