Everybody Knows
Trisha Yearwood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Morning number 32 waking up without you
Mama's on the telephone
She says she's got a plan
She knows a nice young man
Honey if I come back home

[Chorus]
Everybody knows, everybody knows
Everybody knows what to do about my misery
Everybody but me

Well all the girls at work say just forget the jerk
I feel better now
Even my preacher cares, said all I need is prayer
And everything will just work out

[Chorus]

Everybody knows, everybody knows
Everybody knows what to do about my misery
Yeah everybody but me

Well I don't want a shrink
Don't even want a drink
Give me some chocolate and a magazine
I'll learn to live without you
Don't want to talk about you
But I can't even walk down the street

[Chorus: x2]

Everybody knows, yeah!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Trisha Yearwood's song "Everybody Knows" deal with the pain and aftermath of a breakup. The singer is in a state of shock and is unable to move on after her lover has left her. She wakes up on the thirty-second morning without him and realizes that life just doesn't feel the same. As she tries to cope with the pain, she finds herself unable to deal with the well-meaning advice of people around her who tell her to move on. Her mother suggests that she come back home and settle down with a nice young man, but the singer feels lost and helpless.

The chorus of the song, "Everybody knows, everybody knows, everybody knows what to do about my misery," highlights the feeling of being powerless and helpless against the forces that are tearing her apart. The singer is unable to find a way out of her misery, even though everyone around her seems to have a solution or a way to cope. Despite the advice from friends and family, the singer dismisses the idea of seeing a shrink or talking about her problems, suggesting that she just wants to be left alone to deal with her pain.

Love This Song! Grew up on Trisha Yearwood. When I was a little girl, and I'd see her on Tv, I'd think she was my mother. My mom left me at a year old and didn't come around a lot, but she resembled Trisha, so I used to think this was why my mom wasn't home, cause she was singing. So Trisha always made me feel better <3

Yep lol, 😇🤔

Still love this song in 2020. Trisha Yearwood looked as good as ever and sounded better than ever. I like seeing Nikki Nelson singing background vocals. Nelson was with Highway 101 for a while - she was great. This is an awesome tune.

I like this type of country from Trisha. Sure, she has other songs but this one rocks.

I used to play " woman before me" so much.

Real country music from a golden era

I totally agree... I don't listen to much of today's version of country music... it sounds too much like baby talk to me..
