Trisha Yearwood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're looking for the king
The new messiah
We're following the star
Shining brighter
Old man won't you help us if you can
He shook his head but pointed with his hand

There's a new kid in town
And he's lying in a manger down the road
There's a new kid in town
But he's just another baby I suppose
There's a new kid in town
Here in Bethlehem

I see you traveled far
Bearing treasures
You say these gifts are for
The new king's pleasures
I have heard that a king might come
But up 'til now there hasn't been one

There's a new kid in town
And he's lying in a manger down the road
There's a new kid in town
But he's just another baby I suppose

There's a new kid in town
Here in Bethlehem

Overall Meaning

Trisha Yearwood's song "There's A New Kid In Town" tells the story of the birth of Jesus Christ and the arrival of the wise men who come to pay homage to Him. The lyrics express a sense of anticipation and hope that the arrival of a new king, the "new messiah," would bring. The singer and her companions seek guidance from an old man who points them in the direction of a newborn baby lying in a manger down the road in Bethlehem. It is here where they discover that the new kid in town is not just any ordinary baby, but the long-awaited king that they have been seeking.

The lyrics also address the skepticism and doubt that some may have had regarding the existence of a new king. The old man admits that he has heard rumors of a king's arrival, but until now there hasn't been one. The third verse then acknowledges the gifts that the wise men have brought for the new king's pleasures. Through the use of this biblical story, Trisha Yearwood's song resonates with a message of hope and reveals the fulfillment of ancient prophecies through Jesus's birth.

Overall, "There's A New Kid In Town" is a beautiful Christmas song that reminds us of the wondrous events that took place over two thousand years ago in Bethlehem. The song evokes feelings of joy and amazement, as the wise men discover the long-awaited king in a humble manger.

Nobody sings as amazing as Trisha. Her voice is so pure and beautiful.

I love this song so much. When I was a little girl my mom would sing this to me to help me fall asleep at night and as I got older it became our song. :) absolutely amazing song

@jalanis1980

Amazing song and artist. This was a great year for her, a "comeback" of sorts from the previous few years and seems like she was everywhere that year, including Barbara Walters Most Intriguing People of the Year year end special. "Where Your Road Leads" is still my favorite album of hers and of all time. It is truly her peak album that shows what she can do with her voice, image, and song choice.

@corydestein3160

I’m not sure I’d label it as a comeback as she had number one singles and platinum albums pretty consistently, but it was more so her peak of the 90s. I definitely get what you are saying though!

@catidiane
