Thinkin’ About You
Trisha Yearwood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm not quite sure what's going on
But all day through, and all night long
I've been thinkin' about you
I've been thinkin' about you

The look in your eyes
When you smile that way
The sound of your voice
Saying my name
I've been thinking about you
Just keep thinking about you

This single minded fascination I've got
Do you call it love
If you don't then what
All I know is I don't know what you've done
And this train of thought ain't about to jump
The track that it's on

In the back of my mind
There's a secret place
But the whole world knows by the smile on my face
That I've been thinkin' about you
Can't stop thinkin' about you

Think about you

This single minded fascination I've got
Do you call it love
Well if you don't then what
All I know is I don't know what you've done
And this train of thought ain't about to jump
The track that it's on

I know it's crazy
Calling you this late
When the only thing I wanted to say
Is I've been thinkin' about you
Yeah, just keep thinkin' about you
Oh, I can't stop thinkin' about you
Oh, I'm always thinkin' about you

And I do love thinkin' about you
Yeah

Overall Meaning

In Trisha Yearwood's song Thinkin’ About You, she expresses the emotions that come with being absorbed by the idea of somebody. She starts off by confessing that she is not entirely sure what is happening, yet she is constantly consumed by their thoughts. Throughout the day and night, the person remains at the forefront of her mind, and she feels powerless to resist them. She gets lost in the way they make her feel, like the look in their eyes when they smile and the sound of their voice calling her name. Yearwood acknowledges the single-minded focus that she has, which borders on an obsession but is unsure whether to label it as love or not, and the song's theme revolves around this ambiguity. This train of thought is steadfast on its course, and she knows that it is not changing direction any time soon. It becomes apparent that she is open about her fixation as she reveals that the whole world knows, and the smile on her face is the betrayer. While it is somewhat crazy that she is calling so late, all that she wanted to say was that she had been thinking about the person.

Not long ago I lost my wife of 13 years to breast cancer. She was a big fan of Trisha. My wife was an incredible woman, beautiful and what a voice. I listen to Trisha sing and imagine that my wife is singing to me the songs. Some how it comforts me even with the deep sorrow that I feel. My wife was a small town country girl that fell in love with this big town west coast boy. I feel very lucky that I was able to be a part of her life. I miss you sweetheart, I can't stop thinking of you, XOXOXOXO

❤ damn that brought me to tears, I’m so sorry for your great loss no doubt, she sounds like one in a million & she is most definitely still very much with you when you listen to this artist ❤❤❤❤ Never alone, Far from being forgotten.. may this message reach you with love & even more fondless for the love you once shared with your late wife. Your guy’s love sounds like it was indeed Incredible 🔥❤

This is when Trisha really separated herself from other female country artists. Her phrasing, attitude, and appeal just seeps through with her phrasing and styling on this album.

I think Trisha Yearwood may very well have recorded one of the best Country Western songs of all time here. This record really holds up.

@taylorharris1796

Trisha was my favorite country artist in the mid 90s. She was able to adapt to pop culture yet maintain her country roots, which is hard thing to do.

Could not agree with ya more sweets!! I don't believe there's a thing out there she CANNOT sing! And sing it well! Love her soo much! ♡

@largecarz

Eddie Bayers and Brent Mason--the greatest drummer/guitarist duo of all time in country music! The sick groove of this outro is what got me hooked on 90's country forever.

This is one of my all time favorite songs. It means so much to me. Grant was non-verbal until he was eight years old...but when he was about 4-5 years old we were driving down Mansfield Avenue and I was listening to "Thinkin About You" by Trisha Yearwood when all of a sudden Grant belted out an entire line to the song. I could not pull off onto a side street fast enough. I thought I would wreck. I threw it into park and turned around screaming "SING IT AGAIN BABY! SING IT FOR MOMMY!!".

@Sandydize
