Destination Departure
Tristania Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Caressing the anger
Nothing will ever be the same again
At your most beautiful
At your most beautiful

This is my destination
Left behind in desolation
At your most beautiful
At your most beautiful

Leave me
You talk like you know
But you don't and it shows
She should have outlived me
I've listened before but I can't anymore
So just leave me
I tried so hard to find something that I could believe in
But there's nothing there, so there's nothing to fear

Who's gonna be here if you want me to leave?
Who's gonna be here?

Caressing the anger
This is my destination
At your most beautiful
At your most beautiful

Leave me
You talk like you know
But you don't and it shows
She should have outlived me
I've listened before but I can't anymore
So just leave me
I tried so hard to find something that I could believe in
But there's nothing there and there's no one who cares

Who's gonna be here if you want me to leave?
Who's gonna be here if you want me to leave?

Who's gonna end it when you cannot make it stop?
Can you hang on for today?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Destination Departure" by Tristania are complex and emotionally charged, showcasing the inner turmoil of the singer. The line "caressing the anger" suggests that the singer is trying to manage their anger, possibly towards someone who has hurt them deeply. The repetition of "At your most beautiful" could indicate a sense of regret or nostalgia for happier times.

The chorus begins with "This is my destination" which suggests that the singer has reached a point of no return or has made a difficult decision to leave behind a painful past. The line "Left behind in desolation" reinforces this sense of sadness and abandonment. The second verse reveals the singer's frustration with someone who claims to know what they're going through, but clearly doesn't understand their pain. The line "She should have outlived me" is particularly poignant, hinting at survivor's guilt or regret for something the singer feels responsible for.

The bridge repeats the question, "Who's gonna be here if you want me to leave?" which could suggest that the singer feels like they don't have anyone to turn to. The final line, "Can you hang on for today?" is a plea for the listener to hold on through tough times. The lyrics of "Destination Departure" are deeply personal and open to interpretation, but they convey a sense of loss, struggle, and a desire for hope and support.

This song is so unbelievably beautiful and powerful. Although I've never lost a child, which is what this song seems to be about, I have faced some really terrible losses in my life, and had many crises of faith. As such, I understand this all too well. Vibeke is wonderful.

The game Tristania 2 will feature this track, as well as a level in Anders' story will bear the same title as this song (it'll use a different song for that level tho).

@maeweam1 This song seems to be about a child that has died; perhaps you've never experienced that and so don't know the emptiness left behind and the feeling of abandonment by all that you've had faith in. Often, in anguish, one loses everything for a time. I hope your faith is never tested so.
